"James was very helpful from the initial consultation through the installation of our new windows. He was able to provide quotes quickly, and was happy to modify the quotes to ensure our needs were met. Once our order was finalized, James stopped out at our home for a 2nd time to take final measurements, and obtain a down payment. Our windows were ordered, and arrived ahead of schedule. We could have had the installation done sooner, but we were on vacation and had to postpone by a week.
The installation crew was on time (early, actually!) and finished the job in no-time flat. They were kind, courteous, and left absolutely zero mess. We will certainly be using Sun Home Improvement again in the future.

"The installers were prompt and courteous. A very professional installation. As a retired electrician I was impressed with the solar installation, and the windows are beautiful."

Eifs Installers questions, answered by experts

There are a range of egress window types available, including:

  • Single-hung: $100–$400

  • Double-hung: $250–$500

  • Horizontal/sliding: $150–$800

  • Casement: $200–$500

  • In-swing: $350–$700

When choosing a type of egress window, consider how you’d like to open it. For example, double-hung egress windows open from top to bottom and let plenty of fresh air in, whereas sliding windows slide open for easy access.

An egress window is similar to a regular window. However, this type of window opens fully to allow people to escape the home or rescue personnel to enter the home if an emergency occurs. Egress windows are required in all finished basements before they can be considered a living space.

Yes, you can install a bay window in an existing house. You’ll need to have a structural engineer draw up plans to add the necessary support to your exterior load-bearing walls and a general contractor to make the changes to the framing around the new wall opening. This will cost an average of $3,000. After that work is done, a window installer can set the new bay window in place.

A good U-factor for windows is 0.30 or lower, but they can range from 0.20 to 1.20. A general rule of thumb when it comes to the U-factor is that the lower, the better.

Basements are generally required to have windows for your safety. At a minimum, windows should provide an egress in the event of a fire. But basement windows do more than offer a way out; basement windows also offer natural light and ventilation in an area of your home that is otherwise dark and musty.
