"We replaced the windows in our 1933 home through the services of MadCity Windows. From the initial contact with their sales representative to final installation, the company provided top notch professional work. With the draft from the old windows and the cold of the glass, we are already saving on our energy bills. Our house had old, large windows, so they had to be custom made. As an industrial designer and interior designer, we find our windows to be of excellent quality."

"Hired Hanson's to install new windows on my enclosed front porches. Work won't be complete until after the windows are made in about 6 to 12 weeks. Sales rep. Was very kind and very knowledgeable."

"I had two basement windows that needed to be replaced. (They were originally installed in 1961. One had broken glass, so the guys came into a mess.) They did a great job. They removed both old windows, cleaned, prepared both openings, installed the new windows, created beautiful mortar casements around the windows and sealed everything. They look absolutely beautiful. I had previously purchased an area wall cover and had dug part of the hole for this. The crew saw what I had done and they took over, finished digging the hole, installed the wall cover, put dirt around the cover and put a good amount of decorative stone in the bottom. As far as clean up is concerned, the guys cleaned up everything when they finished. The basement looks as good as new. The windows are beautiful. This is definitely a start to making the basement more enjoyable. My expectations were not only met, but exceeded. I will definitely contact Ayers for further basement improvements. They did an awesome job. I am very happy!"

Small jobs welcome

I’m 36 year old, have been doing mainly industrial maintenance the past 6 years or so. Love fixing and putting together all kinds of different things. Not as experienced with home improvements but I have done my fair share, and am never afraid to take on a challenge. I can say that no matter what you throw at me, I will find a way to complete the job and make sure the customer is satisfied.

"We are very happy with the  entire experience.  Their representative, Dave, explained in great detail everything about their doors from the type and strength of the glass used, the locking system, to the actual installation process.  In follow up, an employee came to our home and rechecked the original measurements.  He also  checked for lead based paint.  The installers were very professional and completed the job in a short amount of time.  Our overall experience was great.  We have no complaints whatsoever.  The office staff was very easy to talk with and ready to answer any questions we may have had about our project.  They had someone at our home right away when we did have a question.  It is very windy where we live (wind seems to blow constantly) and, with our old doors, our window treatments would have been blowing out into the room.  Now the wind stays outside where  it belongs and our window treatments stay where they  belong!!   We now have cooler rooms in the summer and warmer rooms in the winter, thus making a savings in cooling and heating expense.  When it comes time to replace some of our other doors or windows, we will be calling Champion!!"

Glaziers questions, answered by experts

There are a few reasons your mirrors might have smears on them after cleaning, but the two most likely are remaining cleaning product and minerals from hard water. If you used a commercial glass cleaner, consider spraying down the mirror with a 1-to-1 ratio of white vinegar and water after cleaning and then wiping it dry with a cotton cloth. If you suspect hard water is the issue, use a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol to spot-clean the streaks, and then let the mirror air-dry.

Yes, it is possible to repair a damaged or cracked mirror, but whether you should do it yourself depends on the extent of the damage. For minor issues like small chips, cracks, and scratches, you can use a DIY approach. Resin-based repair kits can fix minor cracks, while scratches can often be removed with metal polish, nail polish, baking soda, or a glass polisher. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the best results.

However, for more significant damage, DIY repair is not recommended. Repairing and resilvering mirrors is a delicate process that can involve caustic chemicals and requires a high level of precision. The materials for a DIY attempt can cost over $100, which may not be a significant saving compared to hiring a professional. Since a failed attempt could result in more damage and higher repair costs, it is often better to hire a mirror repair expert from the start, especially for large, valuable, or extensively damaged mirrors.

If you decide to forgo your old windows and upgrade them to modern day technology, there may be some people interested in the old windows. You can try selling them on an online marketplace for around $50 to $100 each (so long as the window wasn’t damaged during the removal). This can also help off set the overall price to replace them.

While finding your mirror cracked can be spooky, there are actually many logical and common reasons why this happens. First, the mirror may have been mounted unevenly in the first place. Over time, poor mounting leads to stress points that will eventually cause a mirror to crack. Other common causes of a mirror spontaneously cracking include dramatic temperature shifts, strong thunder or a loud crash somewhere in the distance, exposure to heat and sunlight, and an uneven wall in your home. It's also possible that your mirror had a manufacturing defect or microscopic cracks that occurred during glass cutting or handling that eventually caused it to shatter.

The best tool for DIYers to use to cut glass is a glass cutter, which can either use a straight blade or a sharp cutting wheel to score glass. Once you score the lines you want to cut, elevate the scored line over a pivot point and apply light, even pressure to both sides. Make sure you wear protective gloves and glasses to stay safe during the process.
