"Thank you Elysium!
I am very happy with the work that was performed on the
interior of my home by Elysium. I had my upstairs bathroom wall paper removed
and the drywall skimmed and repaired as well as painted. I also had Elysium
paint the upstairs hallway, which has a high ceiling and required ladder work
to paint around our skylights. 
  The production manager Troy made sure that our project was scheduled and completed in a timely
fashion. I really appreciated the fine customer service that I received from
the company as a whole. I felt like they really cared about respecting my time
as well as my home. The crew was fantastic when it came time to clean up and do the final walk through, I was impressed with how well they cleaned up. I am so excited to have fresh paint on the walls.

"I had a small job and Jeff and his son came over the same day and took care of it. I may have a few more jobs and will not hesitate to hire Jeff. I've already recommended him to 2 other people and he just left a couple hours ago. My job was small - relocating inaccessible smoke detector putting a new one in utility room - but it was something that worried me a lot. As an older person finding a reliable handymen is important. Before installing a deck, you must build a base for the deck to rest upon, often made of compacted soil or gravel. While gravel is an optional material, it helps with drainage. Some contractors also recommend installing a weed control membrane, which helps provide a solid foundation for the frame. In the case of an elevated deck, a pro will often lay down a concrete slab as a foundation. 

Be careful when choosing a product to help you remove ice from your wood deck. Never use sand, gravel, or salt, since these items can damage and scratch the wood. Instead, look for chemical de-icers that are marked as safe for wood decks or use hot water to melt snow and ice.

The proper and most comfortable height for a deck stair riser, also called a step, is between four and seven inches. A height of seven inches is often considered ideal for a strain-free step that minimizes the risk of trips and falls. While it is possible to have risers up to 12 inches, this height can be challenging for children, pets, or individuals with mobility issues. For optimal safety and comfort, pair a seven-inch riser with a tread depth (or run) of at least 10 to 12 inches. Always check your local building codes, as they may have specific requirements that differ from these general recommendations.

Deck stairs should have at least three stringers rather than two. The recommended minimum width for stairs is 36 inches, and the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors recommends at least three cut stringers to provide sufficient support on wood decking stairs of this width. Generally, stringers should be a maximum of 16 inches apart for wood decking and 12 inches apart for more flexible composite decking.

Ideally, a gate should be able to swing both in and out. However, if it can only open in one direction, it is generally best for it to swing inward. This is often the safest option, especially for deck gates near steps, as you'll want the gate to swing away from the stairs. An inward swing also prevents the gate from opening into a public space, like a sidewalk, and can be more convenient when carrying heavy items like a wheelbarrow into a garden.

There are exceptions, however. The layout of your property may require a different approach. For example, if your property is on a slope, the gate may not be able to swing inward. You should also ensure the gate can open fully without colliding with any objects or blocking access to other areas. For a backyard garden gate where public access isn't a concern, the direction it swings is largely a matter of personal preference. Finally, always check your local building codes, as they may have specific requirements for which way a gate must swing.
