"I've never been treated worse by a professional services firm than how I was treated by All Pro today. Made appt. for summer place in Union Pier 3 days in advance and drove 3 hrs. the night before to ensure I was there to meet them in the morning. On scheduled day of service, the plumber had problems with the address, and when I finally flagged him down in the street, he was hostile, aggressive, and abusive. When I'd had enough, I told him to stop barking at me and remember that I was the customer. He was so agitated and unstable, he just yelled to "go find someone else" and drove off. Furious, I phoned the office and explained what happened; the woman on the phone was adequately apologetic and promised to discuss with a manager and get right back to me. Within 10-15 minutes, I received a call that another crew would be at my place within the hour. This happened as planned, and new plumber was actually considerate and professional. HOWEVER; tried to sell me on a lower quality water heater that was priced 60% higher than a quote from a competing company so I told him, no thanks, please just work on flushing out the clogged pipes. After conferring with his office, he told me he could not do this work as he was not certified on the specific tasks to be done. Again, very upset... I called the office and asked why they sent me someone who couldn't even perform the work I'd requested?? They told me they wouldn't be able to perform the work until almost a week later. And I still had to pay the stupid $69 service fee for which I received: unprofessional behavior, and NO SERVICES PERFORMED WHATSOEVER. I will never use this company and will make sure all of my neighbors are aware of this incident. Completely unexpected and unacceptable."

Gas Logs questions, answered by experts

Before you hire a natural gas plumber, it’s a good idea to get quotes from multiple pros to find the best value. When speaking with prospective plumbers, ask them if they’re licensed to work with gas lines, what precautions they take to ensure safety during the project, and how to handle an emergency if there’s a leak after the job. You may also want to know about warranties or guarantees, additional costs, how to prep your home, and if you’ll need to relight your pilot lights.

Pipefitting is a more specialized profession, and pipefitters work with complex systems and low- and high-pressure pipes, so it can be considered harder than plumbing. Though each profession comes with its challenges, the nature of pipefitting requires working with heavier materials in fast-paced and dangerous environments, which can be more challenging than working on residential and commercial plumbing systems.

Installing a gas line is no simple task. From start to finish, you’re looking at anywhere from six to 12 weeks to acquire the correct permits, dig a trench, and connect your appliances. Naturally, the longer the gas line, the longer it will take to complete. If your plumber needs to hire additional contractors to dig trenches and navigate around or remove obstacles, this could put you at the longer end of the timeframe.

Once the land is prepped and licenses acquired, installing the actual line may only take a few days to a few weeks, weather permitting.

Professionals can recommend efficient layouts or appliances and ensuring regulatory compliance.

Fixing a gas leak costs about $45 to $150 per hour for a plumber or gas line specialist. The job’s overall cost will vary depending on the location of the leak. A leaky junction or connection behind the stove or dryer will likely cost about $120 to $170. But for a leak that requires a gas fitter or plumber to excavate a pipe in the yard, the cost could rise to $1,500 to $5,000. Keep in mind that gas leaks are very serious issues, so don’t hesitate to contact a plumber or gas line specialist immediately.
