The owner Joel is condescending. He thinks he is above everyone. He talks down to you. He's discusting. Four months and my fireplace insert is still not complete. I call, text and don't get a reply, crickets is what I hear. Field techs are friendly and professional. Joel can learn from them. Thanks Joel. If I run into you...for your sake I hope I don't.

I wish there was a no star review. I also wish I saw all these reviews prior to our purchase at Fireplace Place. The guys representing this business are a joke. They bicker with eachother and then tell the paying customer they are doing us a favor. After arguing with them the measurements of the chimney to the house are out of spec they continued arguing that they are right. What happens when the fire inspection is done, the entire installation is out of spec and does not pass. A custom piece had to be ordered to cover the ceiling hole made since the unit was installed too close to the wall. The piece comes in, now waiting on hearth pad, hearth of comes in, cracked. Oh and the custom piece, they lost it so they news to order a new one. Almost 7 months from initially going into store and putting down payment, project is done. Just in time for summer. The owner is rude and does not communicate effectively. Go with Hearth and Home. This is one lesson you do not want to learn.

This review is ONLY for purchase & Install of gas piping & a gas log set. I read mixed reviews on Angie's list and decided NOT to go to TFP for my new fireplace unit. I had visited the place and didn't like the options presented and never really gave the staff a chance. However, my wife and I did fall in love with Eiklor gas log sets that we saw elsewhere and TFP was the only qualified vendor in the area that we were willing to do business with.
We had an OK experience. The log sets are expensive $1200 to $1,300 for a 30" log set but if you haven't seen the Eiklor 5-burner log sets, please do. It's so worth the expense compared to "other" log sets. We purchased our fireplace elsewhere but refused to go with their heavily discounted log set because nothing compared to these. Pricing was on par with other places we'd visited. TFP outsourced the permit process & install to a 3rd party installer named Mickey. Mickey was great, extremely professional. He came out to our house to visit to prepare a gas riser diagram required for the permit & took care of the permit process. Upon approval, we coordinated his site visit with the install & he took care of everything & then some. Mickey was great!!
One sore spot was the original quote. We received an original price to install the new gas piping & log set when we visited the store. I think it was a couple hundred bucks from TFP. However, when I asked about permits I was told "oh no" that's additional and the price jumped (with TFPs cut) to something like $600 or $700 bucks, double the original quote from a minute before. Why would a business ever quote a price to install something "illegally"? New gas piping absolutely requires a permit and should never be quoted without the permit costs included. I can see skimping on permits, but gas??
Anyhow, everything went very well. One item of note, we did experience some minor cracking of (2) logs when first lighting the fireplace. 1" chips came off the ends of the "natural prehistoric logs" which shouldn't have happened. We reached out to the MFR to notify them should we have any more damages but none so far.
See attached photos.
Thx

We signed a contract and the installer came out to the home to do the work. However, the work turned out to be more involved than anticipated due to the location of our gas line as compared to the fireplace. So we were given a new estimate, and we had to rethink our plans at that time. Ultimately, we decided to proceed.
There was a lot of time between when we signed the contract and when the work was done for various reasons, but after the initial visit, most were weather related (such as Superstorm Sandy or snow on the roof preventing the work) or permit or inspection related. The company never lost our records despite the delays. Finally Mickey came out to our home to install the gas line. This had to be done along our roof line, and we were worried about how it would look and how it would endure outside weather. However, it looks very nice, and is hardly noticeable. The city inspector even remarked that it was a very good job with good materials, and I don't imagine that he says that to most people.
Our fireplace is very small, so it was also a challenge to get the right size logs that would burn appropriately, but we are quite happy with the logs which were recommended to us, and with the end result.

The sales person was great and had us convinced this would be an easy project. The project manager came to the house and we went over every detail - he said the project would take 5 days or so. On the start day the project manager was a no show - his workers had to be told everything by me. I was very clear on the instructions. Within a few hours they had cut a large hole in a section of antique floor boad that was NOT the correct placement. After about 4 calls to the project manager - he finally showed up (4 hours later than he promised). The workers patched the floor but it will never be the same as the wood floor was original to the house. Every aspect of this project was a nightmare. The project manager was a HORRIBLE man who lied and treated his workers like garbage. His workers tried their best but had no guidance. The workers would sometimes not show up or be very late. The carpenter installing the lip of the mantle put it in incorrectly and it came off after a few hours. The town inspector failed the work 3 times. A project that was to take 5 days took two months as they would not show or we would fail inspection. The project manager and the store staff blamed the town inspector, but that was not the case. We started this project in November and were promised it would be done before our large Christmas party - it was not. In face the company lied to us in saying they would finish the job on Christmas Eve - but they never showed, and later told us that they had a rush job for someone that needed the job done by Christmas day. We would urge everyone to stay clear of this company. They do not care about their customers. I also do not think the finished product is as nice as what they promised. We should have checked Angie's List before hiring them. Lesson Learned.

I HAVE USED THIS COMPANY BEFORE, SO I CALLED THEM TO DO THIS PROJECT. THEY WOULD SHOW UP AND ONLY DO A LITTLE WORK AT A TIME. I HAD TO KEEP CALLING THEM TO COME BACK AND FINISH. I WAITED FOR A YEAR FOR THEM TO FINISH THE MANTLE, FINALLY I JUST DID IT MYSELF.
