"We had new countertops and a sink installed in April 2024 through Costco, with MKD handling the installation. We paid over $6,500 for the job. Just 14 months later, we walked into our kitchen to find the sink had completely fallen?due to failed adhesive and the fact that MKD never used the mounting clips that came with the sink. I contacted MKD and sent photos as requested. Days went by with no response. When I followed up, they admitted they had ?overlooked? the photos and promised to call back that afternoon. They never did. After another follow-up, they informed me the installation was only covered under a one-year warranty and that I would need to pay a $500 service fee just to have the sink reattached. Our sink is now literally being held up by 2x4s. This issue could have been avoided with proper installation and could easily be resolved with a quick visit but MKD refuses to take responsibility. Using a shim or another type of self-leveling feet on the bottom edge of your cabinet bases will help to level them out if you’re installing them on a less-than-level surface. To make this process easier, you can add your shims before attaching the bases to your cabinets while they’re still light and easy to move around.

Moving a kitchen cabinet can be extremely tricky for DIYers, especially if it's attached to plumbing, electrical outlets, or walls. The project requires meticulous planning, the right tools, and some muscle, not to mention a friend or two to help. While experienced do-it-yourselfers can manage it, hiring a pro is often safer to avoid damaging cabinets, countertops, or surrounding fixtures.

You’ll have to make a judgment call. Kitchen ceilings between 8 and 12 feet high typically offer the best-case installations for a new row of cabinets or shelves that will fill the gap. By the time your ceiling reaches 15 feet or higher, as they often do in open floor plans, it’s time to embrace the space and consider toppers that don’t have to reach all the way to the ceiling. You can still get plenty of extra storage with one of our steps above.

Contractors commonly install floors before cabinets during a kitchen remodel. It’s the standard option when installing hardwood, vinyl, and tile flooring. Installing flooring first helps prevent height misalignment, ensures a seamless appearance, and saves extra flooring work and costs if you plan to replace or remove any cabinets later.

You can remove stripped screws with some elbow grease and an extractor kit for severe cases. Don’t forget to purchase replacement screws or hardware. In rare cases, cabinet handles may be glued on, in which case you can use a box cutter or similar knife and a pair of pliers to carefully remove the handle without damaging the cabinet. You may want to replace those handles entirely rather than try gluing them on again.
