"White Pine Renovation was great to work with. The owner, Eric, was friendly but not pushy and made sure our project was completed quickly and without a hitch. The work crew was efficient and hard working. Our new metal roof is beautiful and I am sure it will be for years to come. I highly recommend White Pine Renovation."

"My metal roof chimney fell off and had it patched for time being. Nick was very dependable and explained of what my options were. He was friendly and understanding of my circumstances and got the job done quickly and did a great job. I was impressed since I have had not so good luck with other contractors. If I ever need anymore work to be done, I will certainly call on them. Thank you."

"My house was very drafty and I was tired of paying through the nose heating it and putting unnecessary strain on my furnace. I reached out to Jesse at Roots Renovations and he gave me a reasonable price, finished the job in a timely manner, and now it stays much warmer and furnace doesn't run as much. Can't wait to see how cool it stays in the summer. If I need anything else done I'll definitely seek him out."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Tile roofing is durable, fire-resistant, and energy-efficient. It also adds aesthetic appeal and, with proper maintenance, can last 50-100 years.

Roofing felt is the most common type of roof underlayment, likely because it has been around the longest. It’s called roofing felt because it is often made of felt soaked in asphalt. Depending on the type of roofing a home has, roofing felt comes in different thicknesses.

If properly installed and maintained, roofing felt should last between 10 and 25 years.

You cannot replace granules that have been lost off shingles. The granule embedding process is part of shingle manufacturing, and once the bond holding the granules to the shingles has been lost, the granules are gone for good. Shingles with granule loss must be fully replaced to continue offering adequate protection.

Metal roofs do not inherently leak more than shingle roofs; when properly installed, they are generally less likely to leak. Asphalt shingle roofs are more susceptible to leaks due to factors like wind uplift, damage from extreme weather, moss growth, and ice dams. Over time, asphalt shingles also lose their protective grit, which reduces their waterproofing capabilities. In contrast, metal is a more resilient material that stands up better to heavy precipitation and high winds. However, metal roofs can develop leaks if they are poorly installed, have improperly sealed fasteners, or experience issues from thermal expansion. For this reason, professional installation and regular maintenance are crucial to ensure a metal roof's longevity and superior protection against leaks.

Homeowners insurance typically covers roof repairs or replacement if the damage is caused by a sudden, accidental event or a covered peril, such as a storm, wind, hail, fire, or a falling tree. However, insurance will not cover repairs or replacement for issues stemming from a lack of maintenance, normal wear and tear, or a roof that is simply old and at the end of its lifespan. If a leak or damage occurs due to neglect, you will likely have to pay for repairs out of pocket.
