"These guys are the best! I had a very very old garage door system in a 53 year old house and the door was very heavy and wooden, but was very dangerous because the last time I used it the door almost slammed to the ground when it closed. I called Mid Michigan Garage door and was so grateful that they could come out the next day to fix it. I had been parking on my driveway but had noticed that chipmunks and squirrels had been running around underneath it. They put an entirely new spring system in to redesign the system, and got rid of the old pulley system that had been used. Their quality of work was outstanding and the price was more than fair. I would definitely highly recommend this company to anyone!"

Garage doors are heavy and close under power, so ensuring they're safe should be one of the priorities of a homeowner. Installing at least one sensor is a good start, but it doesn't hurt to have two, especially considering you can install a secondary system for less than $100. There are three ways to open the garage door when the power is out. One is to invest in a solar panel and battery system or generator backup power. If your garage door key is inside your home and you don’t have a spare key on hand to access your entry points, then call a locksmith.

The first place you start with any garage remodel, regardless of the project, is with repairs. You want a stable foundation to avoid problems from arising down the road. Once any necessary repairs are addressed, you’ll want to move on to layout changes, like installing new walls, running new electric, plumbing, and HVAC to the space, if required, and then finishing work.

Garages are often equipped with lighting, electrical boxes, and sometimes even heating and cooling, while carports rarely have utilities. A garage is an enclosed structure that can lock and usually has an automatic door. A carport is often wood or plastic and is designed only to protect a car from elements like rain, snow, and hail. Carports are commonly seen on property where an attached garage is unfeasible but can be a cost-effective solution for car protection for anyone without a completed garage. 

If you plan on heating your garage, you must install a vapor barrier when drywalling the garage. A vapor barrier protects your garage from frost and mold that can occur through condensation. If your garage is unheated, you don't need to install a vapor barrier. The only exception is if you regularly crank the heat in your car before getting in it. In this case, you may still want to install a vapor barrier, as your car can heat your garage.
