Small jobs welcome

"Wow! Thank you Soil Friends Excavation! This exclamation is for the final result, the impact that result has had on life and other projects, and the customer service and guidance shown by this wonderful team at Soil Friends Excavation, LLC. My project was simple and straight forward; remove the extra soil and level the yard to allow proper drainage. The yard had been raised over three-feet above grade in various mounds. A fair price was quoted, work was scheduled, and started soon after. Once the work began, it was almost over. In a typical, small, city backyard, Soil Friends quickly and patiently removed four full dump truck loads of soil. That soil was then followed up by another full truck load of numerous surprise 16-inch diameter trees that were buried under the soil. To finish up, as the team was doing a final pass with hand tools to further grade and even the yard, they took the time to educate and guide me through additional options for making the yard I didnâ t have before, mine again. This transformation of an unusable space into a proper hangout has caused strangers and neighbors to stop by to take pictures and ask about the team who did the work. Having an actual backyard and seeing this noticeable change gave way to a second wind for this Fall. This space now allowed for company to come over and spend time outside while I cooked at the grill, which has happened more in the last few weeks than the last few Summers combined. Their work prompted several other exterior projects getting started and completed within days of my yard being reclaimed. All communication, work, input, and support from Soil Friends was done with diligence, genuine kindness, and my goals in mind. Thank you Ben! Thank you Bob! Thank you Soil Friends Excavation!"

"This company bid on paving subdivision roads. He offered residents a fair price to do their driveway at the same time. In the process of taking old driveway out and excavating for new they hit the garage door and now doesn?t shut properly. Said they fixed it. Not to owner?s satisfaction. If you drive through subdivision after rain, lots of puddles is low areas. The asphalt was not a high quality product. It is better then all the potholes , but not high quality job in my opinion."

"Keagan did an awesome job hot-filling all the cracks in our driveway and then sealing it with two coats of sealer! The driveway looks fantastic and I am very sure I will get multiple years of service from this one seal job! He was on tiume and budget, and left everything as neat and clean as you could ever want - I highly recommend him!"

Paving Services questions, answered by experts

An asphalt driveway should be at least 3 inches thick over a compacted gravel base. Areas with poor drainage should have a thicker stone base. To install a new asphalt driveway over an existing driveway, the new asphalt should be at least 2 inches thick and the existing driveway should be in relatively good condition.

The driveway apron is a technical term referring to where a private driveway meets the public street. If there is a sidewalk in front of the house, the driveway apron is typically on the opposite side of the public sidewalk from the driveway itself.

Professionals restore the surface to a fresh, attractive finish by applying a new, even sealant layer.

Wet cutting is usually the preferred method. It controls dust, which helps protect your lungs and makes for a cleaner working environment. Plus, the water cools the blade, preventing overheating and prolonging its life while providing smoother, more precise cuts. The downside is the mess—water and asphalt sludge can be messy to clean. Dry cutting, though convenient if water isn’t available, creates a lot of dust, which can be harmful. This also increases the risk of blade damage due to overheating. So, if you have the option, wet cutting is the better method for most asphalt jobs.

Pavers are a type of permeable hardscape that can be used for driveways, patios, walkways, and other landscaping features. Unlike poured concrete or asphalt, pavers typically have a layer of gravel underneath to prevent water runoff from damaging your property—though you can also lay pavers on grass. Because pavers are installed piece by piece, you can customize a one-of-a-kind hardscape that best suits your aesthetics, boosting your curb appeal along the way.
