He usually has a small crew working with him, under close supervision. He always works with them. The jobs he has done for us are varied: spring clean-up; spreads mulch every year, has trimmed trees and shrubs; installed a post for bird feeders; completely removed an unwanted garden bed and oversewed it with lush grass; transplanted many plants; we were grateful to find he had unexpectedly and independently relocated many large, heavy rocks from the front yard to border a garden in the back of our house. Stumps are difficult to burn due to their dense wood and high moisture content. The dense wood and moisture slow down the burning process, requiring sustained high temperatures over an extended period. Since the wood is damp, this hinders the heat generation needed to keep the fire burning, causing it to frequently go out.

Tree roots can take weeks to years to die, depending on the method you use. Chemical herbicides take the least amount of time—typically between three and four weeks—while homemade methods, like covering an old stump with leaves, could take between seven and eight years. Some fast-acting products can rot a tree stump in four to six weeks. Keep in mind, these products contain harsh chemicals that may prevent regrowth in the area. Rather than using a trencher to grind stumps, since trenchers work best at digging in soil, use a stump grinder. You can also use shears, a hatchet, a reciprocating saw, or other root removal techniques to finish the job.
