We are a local independently owned and operated franchise called 911 Restoration of Northwest Michigan. We deal with water damage, fire/smoke damage and mold remediation. We also do trauma cleanup and Covid cleaning. We can also offer cleaning such as carpet and floor cleaning and general cleaning. We have over 15 years in the restoration industry and are all about getting a customers home to pre loss condition or better and making sure that we are there for the customer in such a difficult time.

"Terrible. My elderly mother called because she needed a drain installed in her front yard so she could have a driveway installed. When they got there they said they could do the drain and they could also put in the driveway. They said they could put in crushed concrete that will harden over time. She hired them. They came and spread pea gravel over the yard. Grass was still there growing through the gravel. She called and they came back and dug a little deeper and spread more gravel and told her it would harden. She has not been happy with it since and has been calling but they will not return her call. Now she is stuck in her home because they cannot plow her driveway. They will just plow up the gravel. It did not harden and will never harden they lied and took advantage of my elderly parents. My mom is my dad's caregiver, he has Alzheimer's so she has a lot on her plate and they took advantage of her. I live 4 hours away so I could not be there when they came."

Places like air ducts, crawl spaces, and wall cavities are particularly inviting for mold spores but require more time from your mold inspection pro. Additionally, swab testing, where a surface sample from an area of your home is collected, generally costs $200 to $300 per area. Air testing, however, is more costly, ranging from $250 to $350, but can cost as much as $700.

The biggest difference between black mold and regular mold is that black mold is considered toxic, and far more dangerous than regular types of mold. Black mold is a specific type of mold that appears green, gray, brown, or black. Exposure to the toxins in black mold can cause severe health issues, including respiratory problems, skin irritation, and headaches. While regular mold can also irritate your respiratory system, black mold can cause a more serious reaction. Black mold is less common than regular mold and tends to grow in severely water-damaged areas.

If you see black stuff under your vinyl flooring, it’s probably mold. There is a chance it could just be dirt, dried-out adhesive, or slight water damage, but some of those are causes for mold growth, so you should remove it immediately anyway. In some older homes, it could be black mastic asbestos. If you think it could be this–you guessed it–call a pro.

Painting over mold is not an effective solution and can actually make the problem worse. Instead, it traps moisture, which allows mold to grow and spread beneath the surface. Mold must be completely removed before painting to ensure the problem doesn’t recur. If mold is painted over, it may eventually seep through the new layer of paint, causing discoloration and peeling.

The purpose of crawl space encapsulation is to prevent mold and moisture from entering your space. If your vapor barrier is properly installed and intact, it will dramatically reduce the chance that your crawl space develops mold. That said, moisture can condense in the area. If you notice excess humidity, you may need to install a dehumidifier to stave off mold and mildew growth.
