"My damaged wall was rebuilt. The damaged wall was removed. I am very much satisfied with the job. In fact, blocks from the ‘old wall’ were salvaged, because they had a unique style [that is not readily available] A quote from another contractor stated that I would have to accept a rebuilt wall with only standard blocks, no stylized blocks☹️ The work done by Primo Contracting exceeded my expectations."

When the handicapped-accessible shower was installed in the master bath at my residence 15 years ago, the swinging glass door was secured with four brushed nickel hinges.  Over the years, the top two hinges became rusted and corroded, causing the glass shower door to lean away from the wall and rub against the floor.  The bottom two hinges, not bearing the majority of the load, did not exhibit such deterioration.  I contacted Insti-I-Glass and spoke to Bill Eisenman, the owner, both by phone and by email.  He sent Chris, an installer to evaluate the situation.  Chris took measurements and pictures of the hinges and glass door.  Within a few days, Bill sent me an email with two options for repair:  either replace just the top two hinges or replace all four hinges.  I appreciated these two options.  I elected to replace just the top two affected hinges at a cost of $159.  I also appreciated the fact that they were able to locate the exact same style and finish of hinges after 15 years.  One hinge was replaced within the week, making the shower door operable once again.  The second hinge had problems with measurement, but they were once again, able to locate the exact replacement needed in correct size,  style and finish.  This second hinge was replaced on January 31, as noted above.  When the first hinge was replaced in late December, I asked Chris, if the company repaired/replaced door wall windows with cracked seals.  When he replied that they did, I asked him to evaluate the middle door wall window in the living room.  This window's seal had somehow broken last summer, causing the window to be foggy between the two panes of glass.  Chris measured and took pictures of the window.  Within 24 hours, Bill emailed me an estimate of $310 for the door wall glass replacement.  I approved the door wall glass install.  They agreed that both hinge replacement and door wall glass install would be done at the same time.  Bill was very flexible with scheduling, delaying the job to better fit my schedule.  I received an email from Bill two days before the scheduled install to confirm the time for 9:30 a.m.  Once again, Chris, the installer, came promptly, greeted me cordially, and informed me of the order of work to be done, ie, hinges first, then door wall.  He worked quickly and efficiently.  When done with the hinges, he checked the swing of the door and had me do the same.  He then cleaned up in the bath before moving to the door wall in the living room.  Again, he spread tarp on the floor.  He explained how he would remove the glass panel and replace with an already assembled glass double pane unit already in the truck.  Even though the outside  temperature was about 32 degrees, there was no noticeable change in inside temperature.  Chris was quick at removing one glass unit and replacing with the new unit.  When done, he caulked around the entire window, inside and outside and advised me not to move the door wall or allow any pets near the caulk for at least 24 hours.  He asked if he could help me move back the furniture I had taken away from the door wall.

I was very pleased with the service I received from Insti-I-Glass;, from Bill Eisenman, the owner; and from Chris, the installer.  I will definitely use this company in the future.

"It went very well. The owner came out, explained everything in detail. He was not pushy, explained his product and left the decision to us. He was very good about answering questions. He knew his product and knew what we needed. When he came out he already he knew what we could use for our condo. He was very honest about how long we would want to stay there and what we could use or need. He was not pushing any product. He answered all questions we had and had other material in his truck he could show up. He was able to come out when we had time available. We mentioned a comment we had seen on Angies List and he addressed those concerns and explained why it would not be a problem for us. It was a very good experience dealing with him. They come out and measures the window, then they have the guy that is going to install them measure again and introduces themselves so you know who they will be. We had another quote that was slightly lower but the quality of the window is better. He is up front and let you know the windows are made to fit."

"West Glass came out and did an estimate. He gave me the estimate and I was surprised that he was the lowest estimate that had came out. so I went with West Glass. I'm glad I chose West Glass Replacement. He was very professional and knowledgeable of anything that had to do with home glass replacement. The gentleman was very nice and respectable. He got the job done! We were very satisfied. And if I need work done in the future. I will call West Glass Replacement. Thank You Wes! Great Job!"

"I bought the deal in April, but I wasn’t able to get them out until August. The first group that came out wasn’t experienced and broke the glass, but the owner came out afterward. The glass looks fine, but it doesn’t quite match the other windows. They were very pleasant people, but I can’t recommend them highly."

Glass Block Windows FAQs, answered by experts

Several types of professionals handle glass block service in MI. Masonry contractors frequently perform these installations alongside brick repair services. Basement waterproofing contractors specialize in moisture-resistant panels for below-grade applications. Window replacement professionals handle above-grade projects like bathroom or garage windows. Foundation repair specialists also offer these installations as part of broader stabilization packages to address clay soil movement in the area.

Helpful?

Before starting a glass block service project, contact your local township to secure the necessary permits for structural window modifications. You must verify your materials comply with MI energy efficiency standards. Inspect the surrounding masonry for damage caused by freeze-thaw cycles. Check your homeowners association rules for any appearance restrictions. Finally, schedule your installation during warmer months, as winter temperatures severely impact proper mortar curing.

Helpful?

Always verify your contractor holds a valid state license and carries general liability insurance before hiring them for glass block service. Look for local professionals with specific experience working on mid-century brick homes common in Macomb. Ask for references from nearby neighborhoods to confirm their expertise with local soil conditions. Question their cold-weather protocols to ensure they handle temperature-sensitive mortar work correctly.

Helpful?

For lasting glass block service in Macomb, use mortar rated for high freeze-thaw durability. Apply flexible silicone sealants designed to withstand extreme temperature swings. Install vinyl expansion strips to accommodate thermal movement. For basements, choose prefabricated, moisture-resistant panel systems to prevent groundwater leaks. Add mesh reinforcement to structural windows, and ensure all blocks meet local energy code requirements for proper insulation.

Helpful?

After completing your glass block service, schedule a final inspection with local authorities to close your permit. Inspect the mortar joints and silicone seals every spring and fall, as Macomb experiences intense freeze-thaw cycles that cause cracking. Monitor your basement for moisture intrusion during heavy spring rains. Keep your window wells clear of debris to ensure proper drainage when the heavy winter snow melts.
