Customers say: True professional

"The entire procedure was excellent from start to finish. The salesman/installer, Luke Dane, came and measures my windows. He was very personable and professional. He gave me all the choices I had for the windows and did not pressure or "sell" me on anything that I did not need for want. The work was top notch. He made sure that everything was perfect before he left and even let me know that if there was a problem please give him a call and he would come back and make adjustments. The windows are beautiful. I will definately use May's Construction in the future."

"The contracted the work off to a third party. Jon took longer than expected. The windows was installed pretty good from the looks. Communication could have been better with knowing the job will take longer and what types of trims I wanted for the windows. As the contractor that was hired for this job by this company. Did a good job with putting up decent trim. As for the new windows they look great. I purchased the myself and hired sentri homes to install them. I will need to have a my siding on my house redone to be closer to the new windows so the gaps are not so obvious. That was not expected at first. But from old storm windows and not knowing how they were put in originally. There was some unknown things that was learned from the job being completed. I will have the siding of the house slightly done to match really good for what I wanted later on. My only concern is better communication with sentri homes. Overall they were great when I did talk to them."

"Mike did an an amazing job with our built-ins surrounding our fireplace. He was a pleasure to work with and after our initial meeting with him, we knew that he would make us happy and build exactly what we wanted. He is professional, skilled, and courteous. The space surrounding our fireplace had different dimensions on both sides so he had to build two different sized built-ins, but still make them look as symmetrical as possible. We are so pleased with how they turned out. We appreciated his expertise and design ideas, and will reach out to him for any future carpentry work."

"I REALLY liked the salesperson that we bought it from. HE was excellent. When there was a glitch with our siding order, he came back out to check things out. HOWEVER, the guy who put up our siding was not real particular. He cut off our gutters when they were to be removed and re-hung. I AM pleased that the company replaced them without any hassle. The siding was over hanging the gables. It wasn't until we said something that he fixed it. That was the overall problem. Unless we caught a problem, it would have remained. While it might be our house itself, the siding installment is not what I'd consider "A". I don't think that I should be the one pointing out mistakes and getting them fixed. I think that they should have just been fixed. I'm glad that the guy was nice. But the end result was not installed like we had pictured."

"This was a gutter cleaning special which performed well, but the workers who did not clean up the debris from one side if the house, (it was a very hot day ) the opposite side was cleaned fine. They did inspect the gutters also and informed me that the gutters needed to be rehung since they had become detached from the house over the winter.they contacted the owner who gave a prompt and reasonable estimate for the work which I scheduled and was completed in a timely manner. When the owner discovered that the cleanup was only half completed, he planned to clean it up himself, but my husband had already done it.

"The actual roof looks lovely and stopped all my previous issues. However, I experienced damage to interior walls due to the long term (3 weeks) storage of all my shingles on one side of my ridge. I was told it would be repaired, but we are five months later with no timeline on that project. The cleanup looked good on the surface, but I found lots of roofing debris and cigarettes in my landscaping. I also stepped on a couple nails which thankfully just took out a pair of sneakers and caused no injuries. Overall, the work done looks great and Im not experiencing issues five months into the install. However, I did not feel like my experience was all it could have been based on the numerous positive reviews I read before hiring Element Roofing. *Be aware my work was done in the summer, during a pandemic. Weather and illness aside, the damage to my walls could have been prevented with better communication and better organization of delivery versus start day of this project, which is the only reason I was frustrated."

".I had been referred to Jay from a friend for roofing. Our house shingles were 20 years old, but peeling off in large and small sections. Also, the skylights were leaking.(roofs and skylights should last much more than 20 years- FYI- we had been told by several people that it was a combination of incorrect installation by the builder, as well as cheap shingles that caused the premature aging), causing further damage outside and in.
Because of the large size of the house and the severity of the roofing problem, we knew that the project was going to cost quite a bit, which caused delays due to us needing to secure such a large amount for financing. Once that was completed, we solicited bids from Jay and four other roofers, all of which were well known and respected roofers. One quote was for $80,000- yes, I said $80,000 and this was for a metal roof (the prices on consumer metal roofs are cost prohibitive and not worth it in my estimation- you could buy a house for that). The other two quotes were almost identical- $25,000 for tear down and replacement of shingles- but neither would touch the skylights, which was odd. One of these vendors puts ads on all the time, the other one is well respected with a patented shingle. The last two quotes were from Jay and another local roofer who is also well-respected, and these quotes were almost the same- $19,000 and change for tear down, replacement, upgraded shingles, and attic insulation. Jay Nyboer was slightly cheaper, and also gave us a good price on the gutter shields. Based on that, plus the recommendation from a friend, we went with Jay, although this was risky to do it mostly based on price and only one referral.
Although we were nervous about the project in the beginning, we were quickly put at ease.  The Nyboer crew showed up very well organized, with a full crew and equipment. The guys were friendly, hard-working, and experienced. We were so happy that we chose Jay. They knew exactly what they were doing, explained things to us, and even made the skylights' installation look easy (i still don't know why other roofers will not do skylights- if you have them and need a new roof do NOT let them talk you into keeping your old skylights with a new roof- you need to replace them at the same time!) . The project ended up taking a total of six days due to the size of the roof. They worked hard that last day on Saturday to get it done, rather than postpone the completion into the next week. Every day, the guys would make sure they cleaned up after themselves.
The end result? The roof looks AMAZING. They did a ship-shape job and it shows. We had drive-bys in our neighborhood for several weeks afterwards. The whole process with Jay and team was easy and seamless, and they did it for a great price.
In the end, do NOT hesitate to go with Nyboer Builders. These guys are hard-working and experienced. Plus they saved us money!
The downfall of putting on a new roof? It makes your house look great. Then you'll want to replace your garage doors, windows, siding trim, mailbox, etc.. We ended up spending a lot of money on other fixes on our house afterwards, but thanks to Jay, the savings we had with his quote allowed us to spread the home improvement money in other places as well. :)

Siding questions, answered by experts

Not wrapping a house before installing siding can lead to moisture intrusion, rot, mold, and even higher energy bills. Older houses may have siding installed without wrap underneath, so it’s a good idea to add a wrap layer when it comes time to replace old siding to prevent potential damage from water intrusion—local codes may even require it, so check with your municipal building authority.

Increasing home value and return on investment (ROI) are two different things and it’s important to differentiate between the two. While a kitchen remodel will surely raise the value of the house, it may only have an ROI of around 50%. Homeowners looking to raise the value of their home for sale will have to consider how much they will recoup by the monetary investment in projects, as the ROI percentages may be lower or higher than the added value on a dollar-for-dollar basis.

When it comes to fiber cement siding maintenance, it’s not too much work. However, it needs to be painted about every 15 years and may need to be re-caulked to prevent mold. Be sure to also wash your fiber cement siding with a lower-powered garden hose at least twice a year to avoid buildup and fading as well.

Yes, you can install siding over stucco, but it's crucial to ensure the stucco is in good condition first. Before proceeding, inspect the stucco for any signs of damage, leaks, or mold growth. If you discover water damage, mold, or have ongoing leak issues, it's recommended to remove the stucco completely. This step prevents future problems like mold and pest infestations and allows a professional to repair or replace any damaged sheathing underneath. If the stucco is sound, the installation process involves attaching furring strips to the wall's framing directly through the stucco. The new siding is then installed onto these furring strips. A professional may also need to adjust window and door openings to prevent them from being recessed behind the new siding, which can cause aesthetic issues and create potential leak points.

Siding underlayment varies based on the type of material, but most siding is installed on top of a vapor barrier, a moisture-resistant house wrap, sheathing made from plywood or oriented strand board (OSB), and a layer of insulation sheeting. Having the correct underlayment is a critical part of properly installing siding and will protect your home from water intrusion, structural damage, and energy loss.
