"I thought my ceiling fan was leaking air. Bruton Electric advised not to replace and who to call for the work I needed. It's not an electrical job after all.He was so helpful I will hire in the future if I need it. The guy shared an amazing amount of knowledge with us. Truly never had such a good experience with a free quote. I am going to tell EVERYONE he's the guy to hire!"

"Titus answered our emergency call late Friday of Memorial Weekend. We had no power at our cottage. He identified the problem and called the power company . He offered to come back during the night if the power company needed an electrician to be here. His charge was extremely reasonable and we will have him back to do some additional work."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

An AC disconnect, also known as a switch box or fuse box, is a safety switch that allows the AC’s electrical supply to be turned off from the outside, usually done by a mechanical contractor coming to work on your unit. The box is protected from the weather by a cover or may be designed as a pull-out unit. Your local code determines where the AC disconnect must be mounted, but it's usually close to your outdoor AC unit.

There are a few ways to reduce your electricity bills if you use window AC units to keep cool. Set the unit temperature at least 1 degree higher than it is currently to reduce costs. Keep the unit clean for it to run efficiently. You may want to hire a window AC specialist near you to inspect the unit once a year and keep it in tip-top shape.

A duplex outlet simply means that the receptacle has two plug-in outlets for two plugs. It’s a common design choice for homes. The two outlets should be wired identically during installation so the hot side is the same for both.

The safest way to pull an electrical cord from the wall outlet is by gently but firmly grabbing the plug and pulling it out. Pulling on the cord instead of the plug can cause damage to the cord, leading to an increased risk of electrical problems like fire or electric shock. If you notice damaged wiring on an appliance or device, it’s best to stop using it immediately.

To reduce AC startup power for a whole-house generator, install a soft start kit or hard start capacitor, which lowers the initial surge by gradually ramping up the compressor. Using a smart load manager can also help by staggering startup loads, preventing a system overload and future costly repairs.
