"DPH Tree Services took down a dying maple tree for us. They did a great job. It was taken down, starting at the top, piece by piece, since there wasn't enough room to drop it in one piece. I strongly recomend them."

"Hall Tree Service did an excellent job. After removing the tree, it was noticed that there was a patch of area of shingles torn off by the branches. We were referred to an Angi Approved Shingling service. The quote he gave us was astronomical compared to two other quotes outside of your list. We will not go with this Angi approved person. Their cost was $7500 to repair that area. The other quotes were a quarter of that cost at $1500 and lower. Very disappointed that someone from your list would take advantage of a homeowner. You need to reevaluate using this person on your list. If you contact us, we will reveal who this person is."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Before starting a tree service project in Grand Rapids, confirm if your neighborhood has restrictions on tree removal or trimming. Mark underground utilities, check for protected tree species, and review property boundaries. It’s also wise to ask about debris disposal, especially after storms, and to notify neighbors if equipment will block shared access or street parking during the work.

Helpful?

In Grand Rapids, small tree removals or tree trimming jobs usually take a few hours, while large or multi-tree projects can last a full day. Stump grinding is generally completed quickly, but tight urban lots or trees near power lines may extend the timeline. Scheduling can also be delayed during spring storms or when crews must navigate narrow city streets.

Helpful?

For tree service in Grand Rapids, use hardwood mulch from local sources to retain moisture, and slow-release fertilizers designed for Michigan’s clay soils. Tree wraps and galvanized stakes provide support for new plantings. When selecting new trees, choose native varieties such as red oak, sugar maple, or white pine, and avoid invasive species to promote healthy, sustainable landscapes.

Helpful?

In Grand Rapids, unexpected costs during tree service projects often include fees for hauling away large logs, extra charges for tree trimming in hard-to-reach spaces, and costs for repairing ruts left by heavy equipment on soft lawns. You may also encounter additional expenses if roots have grown into utility lines or if city-mandated debris separation is required after removal.

Helpful?

Homeowners in Grand Rapids should consider the city’s frequent spring rains, which can make soil muddy and limit equipment access. Local ordinances may restrict tree pruning during certain months to protect wildlife. Additionally, mature neighborhoods often have overhead wires and shared driveways, so coordinating with neighbors and planning for limited parking is essential for a smooth project.
