Small jobs welcome

"Total Electrical Services was very respectful with our hectic schedules and scheduled the work to be done around us. Tim was exactly where his quoted price ended up. He worked very neat, was on time, cleaned up after he finished. We would recommend him and will also be calling him back for other jobs in the future."

"It went great, this is a unique service, for DIY-ers. My electric dryer wouldn’t heat, so I went on line and diagnosed the problem and ordered the parts. I also watched several how to videos, but none of them matched my dryer. Finally went on Angie’s list and it matched me up with Tin Lizzee which is a chat service to help you through your repair. The technician I talked with was polite, professional, and knowledgeable. I did get stuck during the repair and they called me on my cell and talked me through what I needed to do. I know I saved a lot of money by not having an appliance repair person come to my house with the mark up on parts and labor rates per hour I believe I saved at least half of the cost, if not more from ordering on line and chatting and talking to the Tin Lizzee technician, it was $30 well spent."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Homeowners in Grand Rapids should consider the impact of harsh winters, which may require additional weatherproofing for exterior wiring. Coordination with the local utility is often needed for service upgrades. If your home is in a historic district, special rules may affect your project scope. High humidity, frequent power outages, and contractor availability during peak seasons can also influence your project timeline and planning.

Helpful?

Your Grand Rapids home is likely ready for electrical upgrades if it’s over 25 years old, has outdated panels, two-prong outlets, or visible knob-and-tube wiring. Frequent breaker trips, heavy use of extension cords, or plans for new appliances are strong indicators. Historic homes and unfinished basements also benefit from electrical updates, improving both safety and energy efficiency for MI’s changing seasons.

Helpful?

Upgrading electrical systems in Grand Rapids can significantly enhance your home’s value and appeal to buyers, especially with modern panel upgrades, whole-house surge protection, or smart home wiring. These improvements are especially attractive in historic districts, where buyers value safety and efficiency. Updated electrical work can also help reduce insurance premiums and make your property stand out in a competitive MI market.

Helpful?

In Grand Rapids, unexpected costs during electrical projects often stem from discovering outdated wiring, such as knob-and-tube or aluminum, which may require full rewiring to meet current code. Permit and inspection fees can increase if additional work is needed. Homes in older neighborhoods may also need panel upgrades or extra weatherproofing to handle MI’s freeze-thaw cycles, especially if moisture damage is found behind walls.

Helpful?

Electrical systems in Grand Rapids benefit from seasonal maintenance, such as checking outdoor outlets for weatherproof covers before winter and inspecting breaker panels for corrosion after spring thaw. Test GFCI outlets regularly, especially in damp basements, and replace surge protectors after major storms. For homes over 25 years old, schedule a professional inspection every 10 years to catch hidden issues and maintain code compliance.
