"The service was quickly provided by two gentlemen, one being the owner. They were happy to allow me to observe the process so that i could understand how my fireplace works and what needed to be serviced."

"Very well. Found that there were some issues with our gas fireplace set and CJW took care of it for us. We've never had work done before on a gas fireplace so we dont have much to compare it to. However, we feel it was done well and at a fair price. Would hire them again."

"

This was a big deal purchase. It worked out for me good and bad, The cleaning of the chimney was fine, but the fireplace has two sides. We talked about putting a door on one of the sides that matched the other side. That was not part of the deal, that was separate. I gave them a good down payment and no door is forthcoming. They are very nice, but no door has been forthcoming. They were going to bring the door two weeks ago, but I got a call from the guy who said he was stuck on the side of the road and could not come that day. I have not heard from them since.

"I needed the top part of my chimney replaced and some other tuckpointing and brick replacment done around my house. Jason set up a time to come and check out what needed to be done, he arrived on time, he explained things very thoroughly, and I had the estimate by the end of the day. He answered all of my questions quickly and thoroughly - very good communication. The day of the job, they showed up right on time, they did everything I asked for (and a little bit more), they did a great job, and cleaned everything up very nicely. I would definitely recommend them to friends and if I ever need any brickwork done again, I would definitely contact them. Thank you!"

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

Common issues discovered during a chimney inspection or cleaning include creosote buildup, cracked liners, structural degeneration or masonry degradation, and obstructions such as blocked flues or animal nests. These issues are potential safety hazards that can lead to combustion problems or poor air quality if not addressed.

The damper, located just above the firebox, can open or close the chimney flue. The damper should remain closed unless there’s a fire burning in the fireplace. Closing the damper prevents energy loss through the chimney and cold air from seeping into the home during the winter. Opening the damper helps maintain airflow when there is a fire and prevents smoke and gases from venting into the house.

You should use an angled brush to first paint the mortar lines, then go in with a high-density roller to evenly paint the bricks one at a time. You can also use a flat paintbrush to paint individual bricks, but a roller is faster and easier to use thanks to its longer handle and wider surface area for coating the bricks. To finish, go in with the paint brush for edges or hard-to-reach areas.

A fireplace can take anywhere from a few hours to several weeks to remodel, depending on the complexity of the project. For example, for a simple paint job, you’ll spend very little time touching up your fireplace, while larger remodels that involve replacing or repairing a fireplace can take up to 4 weeks.

Your chimney comes with dampers, which are similar to air vents. Dampers are metal plates that allow hot air and smoke to flow from the fireplace up your chimney and out of your home. When you close the damper, it prevents cool air from getting into your home. This is why you’ll want to check to make sure your damper is open before starting your fireplace and you want to ensure it’s closed after the fire goes out. You can open and close them via an external knob, pull chain, or lever.
