"Jeff Shultz called me the day I came on here to find someone for drywall. They came out quickly to view the project. I had an estimate within 24 hours after that and they came to complete the project within the week. Very timely and friendly. Easy to work with. I would hire them again. "I would like to say Thank You to Mike (from DMR Handyman Services LLC). My neighbor referred Mike to me because he had done some work for her & she had nothing but good things to say about his work. I texted Mike a few months later & requested a quote. Mike came over & took a look at the work that I wanted to have him to give me a quote/estimate on. He walked into my house & walked past 2 big boxes that were sitting in my front hallway. I told him that there were 2 vanities inside. He told me that they specialized in bathroom & kitchen remodeling. He also told me that I should go on their website & see the various projects that they have worked on. A few days later, Mike emailed a quote to me for the amount he would charge for each repair or installation. I replied, That is "Very" reasonable! When Mike started the work at my house, he was very professional & worked non-stop for 2 weeks! He completed over 15 jobs! He has excellent work ethics. Great Job Mike! Thank you again!"

"Cliff and his crew did a great job replacing my roof and gutters and making sure everything was just as I asked. Cliff recommended some new venting as my house didnt have modern ventilation set up (no where for air to flow in and push the hot air out) installed hidden vents and new upper vents."

"Keenan did a great job painting 2 rooms and the kitchen ceiling. He made minor repairs, covered all exposed furniture, and cleaned up everything when the job was done. He and his assistant were respectful and pleasant. I will not hesitate to hire them again."

"Tyler and his crew have done multiple projects for our house, including a new roof, repairing drywall from a water leak, and replacing siding and soffit. They always treated us fairly, promptly and with respect. Tyler gave us a fair quote and was quick to finish all of the projects. He was awesome. Thanks Tyler."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can apply new plaster over an existing plaster surface, such as a wall or ceiling, provided the old plaster is in good condition. Before you begin, check the stability of the existing plaster. The surface must be clean, free of loose material, and have no peeling paint. It is also recommended to roughen the surface slightly to promote adhesion. For older plaster, applying a base coat like a PVA emulsion or a specific bonding agent or primer is crucial. This step makes the existing plaster less porous and ensures the new and old layers adhere properly for a smooth, long-lasting finish.

The easiest way to tell if a wall is load bearing is to check if it’s an exterior wall or if it runs perpendicular to the joists above and below it (or parallel to beams). Exterior walls are almost always load-bearing, and walls that run under beams or parallel to them are also usually load-bearing. There are exceptions to these rules, and walls that don’t fit into these categories can still be load-bearing. If you’re unsure, hire a structural engineer to look at your home to assess whether or not the wall is structural.

In most cases, plaster repair will improve your home’s energy efficiency because a solid barrier of the insulative material helps keep conditioned air inside your home. Major plaster repair jobs like repairing large cracks or crumbling sections of plaster or applying a skim coat might make a noticeable difference in your heating and cooling bills. Not only can plaster repairs improve efficiency, but they can also reduce strain on your HVAC equipment, potentially saving you money on maintenance and repairs.

Plaster is a pretty tough surface, but it can still sustain damage from things like bumping against it, water issues, dampness, extreme humidity changes, and plain old age. Most plaster walls last hundreds of years and will only be taken down to the base layer when major repairs are required. Being cautious around the wall, not placing furniture against it, and ensuring stable humidity are all great ways to reduce possible damage.

In most cases, no, you won’t need a permit to replace drywall. If you’re changing the floorplan of your home by adding or removing walls during the drywall project, then you might need a permit, but replacement or repairs usually doesn’t require a permit. Your drywall professional should be able to confirm whether or not a permit is required for your project. If it is, it’s likely to add between $50 and $150 to your total cost. Keep in mind that you will need permits if you plan to install new electrical wiring or plumbing lines behind your new drywall.
