If your Corian® countertop begins to appear dull or dirty, or you notice scratches on the surface, you can return it to its original finish while maintaining its look. To do this, repair any scratches with a repair compound and sand the surface after it dries. 

Then, use an orbital sander with either a 100-, 30-, or 15-micron disc and finish with a hand pad (like Scotch-Brite™ 7447 or 7448) or lamb’s wool bonnet and automotive cutting compound for a matte, semi-gloss, or gloss-finish, respectively.

The process involves cleaning the surface, applying bonding agents or new veneers, and finishing with a protective top coat or polish.

Rust should be pretty easy to identify in your bathtub, as it has a dark red, brownish color, and it sits on the surface of the porcelain. It usually appears around metal fixtures, like under your tub spout or shower head, and you might also find it under metal shaving cream cans or razors that you leave sitting on the tub or a shower shelf.

You're more likely to accidentally crack your plastic tub rather than successfully fixing a hole. You can fix hairline cracks and larger stress cracks with a plastic tub crack repair kit from a home improvement store. You'll need to clean out the tub, apply either the epoxy resin or filler putty compound into the crack, let it dry, and then sand it out.

Depending on your budget, you might consider a new tub as part of your bathroom remodel costs. It could be a good opportunity to update everything after considering all of the bathroom remodel ideas out there.

The difference between resurfacing and refinishing is that refinishing only works on solid surfaces that are in good condition, whereas resurfacing will restore a cracked or worn surface to its original, blemish-free state.
