If you have a lot of trees around your home, mulching all those leaves can smother the lawn. Air and light won't reach the grass and soil if too many leaves have been mulched. Turf grass and other lawn problems can arise if the weather is too wet and excessive leaves have been mulched.

There are a few ways you can reduce the cost of mulch delivery, including the following:

  • Place your order in the winter months for spring delivery

  • Choose a more affordable mulch color

  • Opt for a more affordable type of mulch

  • Place larger orders to get a lower cost per cubic foot

  • Opt to lay your own mulch to save on installation costs

  • Add on other delivery or landscaping services to save on travel costs

  • Prepare a single delivery site in the front of your property, and use a wheelbarrow to move smaller quantities 

Topsoil costs from $12 to $55 per cubic yard, depending on the type you choose. For example, screened black dirt will cost about $15 per cubic yard. Loam (soil composed of sand, silt, and clay) costs about $17 per cubic yard. Standard screened topsoil costs about $20 per cubic yard. The type of topsoil you need depends on your landscaping plans.
