"Jay did the HVAC when we built our house. He comes regularly to do Clean and Checks and keeps our system healthy. We've also used him over the years for installing a garage heater, moving supply and returns for a basement remodel, changing to the Nest thermostats, and adjusting the air flow to different zones of the house as the seasons change. We trust him, and highly recommend his services!"

"We were very impressed with A & C Heating and Cooling. Their online scheduling tool was convenient, user friendly, and there was a variety of time slots available. The appointment follow up, reminders and arrival tracking map were timely and helpful. Our technician, McKinley, was amazing!!! He was very courteous, knowledgeable and efficient. He diagnosed the problem quickly, installed the needed part, and ran tests to ensure the unit was running at peak performance. He educated us about our unit by explaining how it operates, what caused the problem, and how the replacement part would remedy the problem. We are VERY satisfied with their service. We give this company and our technician our highest rating, and we would highly recommend them to anyone in need of quality heating and cooling installation or service. ."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Evaporator coils in an HVAC system typically last between 10 and 15 years, which is roughly the same lifespan as the entire AC unit. The longevity of the coils can be affected by usage frequency, environmental conditions, and how well they are maintained. Regular maintenance, such as cleaning and inspections, can extend their durability. If the evaporator coil fails in an older air conditioner, it may be more cost-effective to replace the whole unit rather than just the coil.

In some cases, yes, portable air conditioners are worth buying. They’re a relatively affordable option for cooling small spaces. (On average, they cost between $100 and $500 per unit.) Plus, they’re easy to set up, and you can move them around to cool various parts of your home as needed. However, they aren’t the most efficient AC option, and they tend to be noisy.

On a summer day, expect your AC to run between 12 and 16 hours. However, this time frame depends on just how hot it is outside and the comfortable temperature you’re hoping to maintain indoors. Assuming the size of your AC is appropriate for the space you’re trying to cool, it shouldn’t be a problem for it to work this many hours.

There are several common types of HVAC systems that you may have, including split systems, hybrid HVAC, duct-free systems, packaged heating and air, geothermal heating, or even portable units for heating or cooling. If you aren’t sure which type is in your home or are looking to install something different, you should consult an HVAC pro to determine which option is right for your heating and cooling needs.

The cost to replace an AC evaporator coil is typically between $600 and $2,500, with an average cost around $1,300 to $1,350. The price of the coil itself can range from $550 to $1,100, depending on the brand, size, and style, with professional labor adding around $700. Replacing a condenser coil is generally less expensive, costing about $800. Because this repair involves handling refrigerants, it requires a licensed AC professional. Regular inspections, which cost between $200 and $600, can help prevent costly coil replacements.
