"Two years ago, I considered installing solar when our house needed a new roof. I was not sure about it because no one I knew personally had done it. I talked to multiple installers including Mike from Oak Electric. His knowledge, professionalism, openness, and no-pressure approach convinced me to go with them. Installation was a breeze and they took care of absolutely everything. I went with the all-cash option. Now two years later, I could not be more pleased with our decision to go solar and the choice of installer. It has been working flawlessly and the productivity has been within the estimate they promised, although slightly lower than the nominal. It has been as reliable as it can be and has not had a single hiccup. Mikes after-sales service in answering my questions even after two years has been impressive. I highly recommend SunPower and Oak Electric."

"Called roughly 15 minutes before they opened on Saturday morning.  Someone answered.  They were open till 12.00 and agreed to come out to our home by noon and determine why our AC ceased to function.  Fee to inspect/assess was $89.95, a competitive fee.  We had a $20 coupon from their website.  They identified the problem and eliminated it.  Total price was reasonable.  Got the job done quickly and professionally.  Will use a again if need be."

Solar Panels questions, answered by experts

There are a few great questions to ask a solar contractor or inspector when you speak to them. You’ll probably want to find out about the energy yield and efficiency of your array, ensuring the actual output matches the amount you calculated when installing the array in the first place. It’s also a good idea to find out about any damage or wear and tear on the array and to inquire about how soon you need to make repairs or replacements to essential components.

If you’re deciding between a solar battery versus a generator for the best backup power solution, you can take a few factors into consideration. Solar batteries are quiet while generators can be quite loud. Generators have a lower up-front cost, but they require fuel and ongoing maintenance while solar batteries are more expensive but don’t have many ongoing costs.

Ideally, you want to place them facing true south. This is different from what a compass shows, which is called the magnetic south. You can find true south by using an online calculator as long as you know the longitude and latitude of your property. Solar panel placement is key to maximizing the energy you generate, so this is an important step.

On average, a typical fridge uses 115 kWh per month. With eight hours of sunlight per day, a 100-watt solar panel can produce 30 kWh per month. This means you’ll need at least four dedicated panels to power the refrigerator with solar energy. Consult with a solar power specialist to get a more accurate estimate.

The average cost to install solar panels is around $27,000, with most homeowners paying between $4,500 and $54,000. These prices don’t consider the federal investment tax credit (ITC), which can reduce costs by up to 30%. The final price depends on several factors, including the size of the system needed to offset your energy consumption, the amount of sunlight your home receives, your geographical location, the type and brand of panels, labor costs, and any add-on products like solar batteries or electric vehicle (EV) chargers. It is recommended to get price quotes from at least three solar companies in your area to find the best deal.
