"Robert and his team only took 9 hours to get a gas stove out of here, put up two partial stone walls and install the wood burning stove. Robert took the time to show me the correct way to start the fire and use the damper. I am very impressed with the excellent workmanship by all working with Robert. If your heating bills are ridiculously high, try a wood burning stove."

"This has to be one of the best companies I've ever worked with! Starting with Tarek (the project manager) to the most hardworking crew I've ever seen, the job was phenomenal from start to finish. We had a new paver patio and flower/plant ledge done in the front, a walkway from the front to the back, and a paver patio with fire pit in the back. Beautiful work! Couldn't be more happy and would highly recommend this company to anyone!"

"Eric and Riley did a great job for a very fair price, diagnosing and fixing of several problems that popped up. For anyone worried about price gouging, they showed a lot of integrity by replacing parts at no extra cost when they easily could have gotten by keeping mismatched but functioning accessories. Also, it is not cost-effective to dig into the gas lines and the firebox just to sell an upgrade. Outside work such as installing a color-coordinated chimney cap might yield a profit. Chimney Sweeps are very busy. I recommend getting on the books early or doing an off-season inspection. My fireplace is up and running, but I plan to get a level 2 inspection to have more knowledge and peace of mind about the house. In hindsight, I should have gotten a nicer log set, but I wanted to keep costs down in case I had to spend more on repairs."

Customers say: True professional

"Father Paver did a highly professional and superb job build an in-ground firepit and patio for my yard. They were very meticulous to meet my specifications and expectations and it was a wonderful experience. I would definitely recommend them, and I intend on using them in the new year for follow-on work in other parts of my property."

"I had a hole in the side of my house from the bricks disintegrating among other issues. Modern Brick came out the day I called. Sean took his time and thoroughly inspected the entire house. He was very honest and knowledgeable about the issues that needed to be repaired. I hired them and they started the work Monday and completed the job by Wednesday. Sean and Shane came on Wednesday to do a final inspection of the work. They did a great job and I could not be happier. I would highly recommend them. Thank you guys again!!"

"They really make it easy to do business with them. We're generally not available during the day, but they were able to come out when we were available, more than once. From original discussions, to reviewing plans and bringing out paver samples. Very accommodating. We also had a hard deadline with a party coming up and they more than beat it. Once they dug up the mess that was our previous patio (cement, lava rocks, a huge lilac), they found other issues with drain pipes, etc. but they kept me in the loop, proposed a quality solution and got it done without drama. There's always something that you can't see in a home improvement project and you just want it to be fixed the right way without a lot of stress or extra cost, that's exactly what happened here, other things got corrected and now I don't have to worry about those."

Fire Pit Installation questions, answered by experts

Chimneys should either be sealed or waterproofed, which is different from sealing off—closing at both ends—a chimney. Waterproofing and sealing are both crucial steps to take to prevent water damage and the chimney leaking inside the house. While waterproofing is more comprehensive, both help safeguard your chimney, extending its life span and preventing expensive repairs.

You should never block both the top and bottom of your chimney. Proper airflow is essential because the temperature inside the chimney will still fluctuate as your house warms and cools. Moisture can build up without ventilation, leading to dampness in your walls over time. Blocking the top prevents debris and animals from entering, but the chimney still needs air circulation to avoid condensation issues. Allowing the chimney to breathe maintains the health of your home and prevents long-term damage.

You can install a range hood and use the vent to protect your kitchen cabinets from heat and steam from the stovetop. For added heat protection, homeowners can install metal heat shields to exposed sections of the cabinets. It is also essential to keep cabinet surfaces clean by removing any grease buildup that can cause a fire.

Grounding is a great first step to prevent electrical shock, but you can take it further with GFCI outlets and AFCIs (arc fault circuit interrupters). In particular, AFCIs help protect against the type of electrical arcs that cause fires, like if a mouse chews on a wire or your laptop starts overheating at the wall. These are required in some areas of your home.

Most homeowners put a layer of compact sand or gravel at the bottom of their firepit, but you can also choose more decorative options like fire-resistant paving stones, bricks, or fire pit glass. Dirt by itself can even work, but other materials do a better job of spreading the heat around.
