"The installers arrived on time, worked hard and well for hours in the heat. They cleaned up as promised. Our only complaint was that one hole was cut too large for the access panel they were installing. The patch up job was so bad that after sending a picture to the office they sent someone out two days later to correct it and it was fine. I do wish I'd asked to see a picture of the panels first because they are clunky and very easily opened by curious small children. And be sure not to sign a contract at the first price you are given. This is one of those companies that uses the phone trick to supposedly get you a better deal. But only if you sign right away of course. All in all it was a good experience. And we do notice a difference in the bedrooms upstairs, despite a recent heat wave, which was our goal."

"I hired Double Check to do an inspection for a personal decision of "Repair or Replace". Justin came out, performed the inspection, took photographs and answered all my questions. He found some issues like a few shingles missing, popped nailheads and the like. We discussed the Repair or Replace decision. Very knowledgeable and easy to deal with. Highly recommended."

Energy Efficiency Auditing questions, answered by experts

Hawaii is currently rated as the most expensive state for utilities. How much are utilities for a house in Hawaii? With electricity costs in Hawaii totaling nearly 42 cents per kilowatt-hour, residents are paying more to run their households than any other residents. Electricity costs in Hawaii are so high, mostly due to the fact that most of the electricity available to residents is produced using oil that must be shipped in from other places.

A blower door test shouldn’t take more than an hour, and most can be completed in less than 30 minutes. Expect the test to take longer once you start searching for leaks with thermal imaging or want to include sealing such leaks in the time estimate. The test doesn’t take much time and can’t be rushed, but it will take longer in large homes or those with many air leaks.

Yes, skylights can affect a home’s energy efficiency, either positively or negatively. Properly installed, energy-efficient skylights with Low-E coatings, double glazing, and UV-blocking glass can help regulate indoor temperatures and reduce heating and cooling costs. However, poorly insulated or older skylights can contribute to heat loss in winter and excess heat gain in summer, lowering overall energy efficiency.

Upgrade to double-glazed glass or apply energy-efficient coatings to reduce heat loss and utility costs.

There is no blanket figure for a residential home’s electrical load, since load varies by the size of the home, how many appliances are used, and the efficiency of their electrical systems. Typically, however, it’s safe to assume 40 to 60 amps is the average electrical load of a residential home.
