"If you are considering changing your fuel supplier to Pitstop Fuels - DON'T DO IT. Just when you thought customer service in this country couldn't reach higher lows Pitstop is proof it could. I don't know what has happened to this country when company's that you have done business with and spend thousands with annually, have no qualms about leaving a human being in Maine without heat until January. Well, actually I do know what has happened to this country but that's a subject for another day. Yes, that is right, it is now mid-December and they were completely unwilling to answer and emergency service call for no heat until January. I have been a customer of Pitstop for at least 10-12 years maybe more. They supply LP and #oil for my own house and other rental properties I own. I called on 12/13/2021 with a NO HEAT issue for one of my rental properties and even spoke to the manager Dennis, who reiterated they were prepared to leave my tenant without heat until Janaury. This is a far cry from the service one used to receive from Melanie who used to manage the propane department deliveries and service. Not only is it morally wrong to leave a tenant without heat in the winter - it is illegal but Pitstop didn't give a rat's behind. Having owned properties for many years and having to deal with repairs from time to time, it was always understood that heating companies always provided EMERGENCY SERVICE within 24 hours for NO HEAT situations. Well that is exactly what would have happened if I used another supplier. I contacted them all and companies such as Downeast would have provided that emergency repair service if I was a customer of theirs. That is exactly what my mistake was as less than a month ago I was prepared to leave Pitstop after repeatedly being given incorrect pricing on LP when they said they would match the price Downeast was offering me. I should have just told them to go pound sand then but I gave them a second chance, which was a huge mistake. MY BEST ADVICE IS TO AVOID PITSTOP AT ALL COSTS because when an EMERGENCY NO HEAT situation arises they really don't care. Once this winter passes and I no longer have a resident in this unit I WILL BE SWITCHING SUPPLIERS. Fortunately for me I can do so immediately for 2 of my properties, one where I use #2 oil and another where I wisely purchased my own tank allowing me to go anywhere with my business. In other words I can vote with my $$$. As a business owner I understand how important the bottom line is but the safety and comfort of human beings trumps that in all cases. PITSTOP IS ON MY "GO POUND SAND" list and I will be getting rid of their leased tanks come spring and no longer order any type fo fuel from them EVER AGAIN. WHO NEEDS A COMPANY LIKE THIS THAT WOULD LEAVE SOMEONE WITHOUT HEAT TILL JANUARY 2022."

Heating Oil questions, answered by experts

You need to service an HVAC system about twice per year, with a service including an inspection and basic maintenance. It’s best to schedule maintenance in the spring (after the furnace has been running and before the AC kicks on) and in the fall (after the AC worked hard all summer and before winter’s first chill arrives).

Regular HVAC services will keep the system working as efficiently as possible, saving you money on utilities and larger repairs. HVAC maintenance costs around $250 per visit, while bigger repairs from forgotten upkeep could cost thousands.

Yes, geothermal heat pumps are worth the money. You can save about 70% on heating costs in the winter and around 50% on cooling costs in the summer with a geothermal heat pump compared to a traditional HVAC system. Over time, your savings on monthly utilities will pay for the cost of the geothermal heat pump installation. If you have an incredibly small yard, however, you may not have enough space for this type of system.

The most obvious downside is the high upfront cost of buying and installing one of these systems. Additionally, sometimes the system can take a longer time to heat than alternatives like a boiler. Also, if something goes wrong with the geothermal pump, repairs are often significantly more expensive than repairing traditional, above-ground heat pumps.

Leaks, poor airflow, reduced efficiency, and loop blockages are common problems requiring service.

Service costs range from $200 to $1,500, depending on maintenance needs, system age, and labor.
