"Fortin Construction offers everything you need to build a new home in one stop. Budget and schedule were spot on. All materials used are name brand quality. Dedicated service guy for one year after completion is a very nice touch. Best of all Fortin was able to locate/position my home providing a bone-dry basement in an area which makes that almost impossible. Would highly recommend. Well done!!"

Home Snuggers specializes in improving home insulation in Maine and features RetroFoam, the best choice for insulating an existing home. Every home is unique so our estimators determine the best insulation for each and every customer individually. Each area of your home may require a different type of insulation which may be a blown in insulation, spray in insulation, foam insulation, cellulose, or other type of home insulation foam. How do we help you save money? We help you identify the type of insulation that will pay for itself the fastest. RetroFoam, one of our most popular products, works well for homes with poor wall insulation or walls with no insulation at all. RetroFoam is an eco-friendly, nonflammable foam that quickly acts to seal gaps and cracks, keeping precious heat inside on cold days and cool air in summer months. Installation is done from outside so it’s quick, clean, and hassle free. Did you know that, for Maine, foam insulation surpasses fiberglass or cellulose? It also reduces outside noise, stops drafts, and is guaranteed never to settle. Home Snuggers installers are trained professionals who can work on any home and answer all your questions about Maine foam insulation. Our customers will tell you how comfortable, effective, and affordable it can be. Insulation is much more affordable than the rising cost of heating of a poorly insulated house over time. Don’t let a leaky house put a drain on your wallet. Contact Home Snuggers today to arrange for a free estimate.

Fix-It Man is RRP (Renovation, Repair, and Painting) Certified by EPA as well as Maine Weatherization tech certified. The owner, Vincent Veligor is also a Licensed Construction Superintendent. After contacting us, we’ll set up a “meet and greet” to get acquainted and review the project and provide an estimate of the time or cost. For bigger projects, we ask that you sign a contract and in some cases where there are significant material costs or special order items, we require an up-front payment. For longer projects we may do interim invoicing; otherwise we bill for the project when it is complete and we request that you pay us upon receipt of the invoice.

Insulation questions, answered by experts

You don’t need to remove old insulation before adding new insulation. As long as the old insulation is still in good shape—not wet, physically damaged, or moldy—then you can stack new insulation on top of old insulation to get a compounding effect. You can also mix different types of insulation, like adding blown-in insulation around existing fiberglass batt insulation or installing rigid insulation boards over rafters in your attic that already have batt insulation installed. If your existing insulation is very old or damaged, though, you’ll likely see more benefit from removing it and replacing it instead.

Without a doubt, insulating a garage door is a surefire way to make your home more energy efficient. Not only does insulating your garage door reduce your electric bills, but it also helps protect your valuables inside your garage, all while making for a quieter interior space.

In regions that drop below 0 degrees Fahrenheit, your car's battery is at risk of malfunctioning in a garage that drops dangerously low. So, homeowners who reside in extremely cold climates can especially benefit from insulating their garages.

Installing new insulation in a home is worthwhile if your existing insulation is old and has lost some of its insulative capability or if you don’t have insulation installed already. Installing new insulation will boost your home’s energy efficiency, which can reduce your heating and cooling bills and save money on HVAC repair and maintenance in the long run. New insulation also keeps your living space more comfortable, so you and your family will benefit from the work as well. Finally, installing new insulation boosts your home value, making it especially worthwhile if you plan to sell.

There are two places where you should not place foam insulation: around electrical boxes or near lightboxes. The foam insulation could get inside the electrical boxes and damage the wiring. Spraying foam too close to a lightbox creates a potential fire hazard; it could also cause damage to the light.

There are two reasons why cellulose insulation repels rodents (and insects). First, the insulation has been treated with boric acid, which is a natural pest-repellent. In addition, the loose-fill style of cellulose creates less-than-ideal conditions for mice and other rodents to nest and burrow, helping to keep them at bay.
