Most high-gloss paint will stick to plastic. However, it’s important to prepare your plastic surface to have the best success with painting it. Even the most plastic-adhering paint can struggle to fully adhere to a surface that no one has properly prepared. Ensure that the surface is clean and free of grease or dirt. In most cases, you’ll need two coats of paint to ensure proper coverage. If you put down a coat of primer first, you could get away with a single coat of paint, but you’ll likely still need two coats. The only exception would be if you’re painting with a light color over a dark color, in which case you may need three or four coats of paint to ensure the dark color doesn’t show through the new paint.
