Small jobs welcome

"The previous contractor that laid the linoleum left ripples in the floor. It wasn't installed correctly. Top Notch Construct came in and did just that in the repairs, a Top Notch job. The team was also very professional and worked with me in understanding what they were going to do."

"Dennis and Mark did a very nice job on a basement renovation and deck installation. Dennis is very communicative, which is appreciated. They are also good people and are considerate of your home while working. Pricing was very fair, and the work is quality."

"We have been getting exceptionally heavy rain fall this year. For the first time our house developed a roof leak and water was pooling on the master bathroom ceiling and running down the wall behind a heavily tiled wall. We had not worked with Dave previously, but he came out right away, quoted the job, checked that the leak had stopped, then showed up the next day with a roofer and made the necessary repairs. Polite crew, cleaned up afterward and the repair looks better than the original - and no more leak. The price was well within estimates.
Based on responsiveness in a tough situation, without taking advantage of the situation, I will hire them for other more extensive project work. Good guys, quality work and decent prices."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

The difference between floor and wall tiles is that floor tiles generally have higher strength and porosity ratings than wall tiles. Wall tiles are typically weaker and more likely to crack or become damaged under sustained pressure like high foot traffic.

For this reason, avoid using wall tiles on floors and vice versa.

Glass tiles are among the most difficult to install. This is because their transparency makes the adhesive visible, and any imperfections on the opposite side are also likely to be visible. Glass tiles also must be handled carefully during installation, as they are prone to scratching. For these reasons, glass tiles often require professional installation to get the most out of their beauty and unique look.

You should always use caulk instead of grout where the tile meets the wall. This will help your tile installation look great and last a long time. When you accidentally use grout for the corner seams, you end up making the tiles too rigid. So as the wall shifts over time, your tiles have no wiggle room. This can lead to tile damage, which will eventually require you to do at least a partial reinstallation.

It’s important to leave a gap in the corner when tiling to allow room for tile expansion. Leaving between one eighth of an inch to one tenth of an inch is enough space.

Yes, you can install a backsplash directly onto drywall, provided the wall is properly prepped, clean, and dry. For best results, especially in kitchen areas, your walls should be made of moisture-resistant drywall, often called green board. If your current wall isn't moisture-resistant, it's recommended to replace it before installing the backsplash. For even greater protection against water damage, you can remove the existing drywall and install a tile backer board or cement board instead. While properly installed standard drywall is typically strong enough to support a backsplash, some local building codes may require water-resistant materials in kitchen areas, so it's a good idea to check.
