My husband is an architect and pretty much knew what needed to be done to remove a wood burning stove from our fireplace and restore it to a working fireplace before anyone arrived to give us a quote. We had several contractors come by and try to tack on extra unnecessary add ons using scare tactics. Gary from Shamrock came and not only was he honest about what needed to be done he also assessed that we needed some repair work done to our chimney which my husband already knew had to be done. We were very pleased with the removal of the wood burning stove , the chimney repair and his promptness and professionalism. Gas fireplaces use either natural gas or propane—both of which will increase your energy expenses. But propane is not ideal if you already have a gas line installed. While some building codes allow galvanized pipe for natural gas, it shouldn’t be used for propane. Propane can cause the pipe to wear down, leading to dangerous leaks. Instead of galvanized piping for propane, you should consider coated copper, black iron, or corrugated stainless steel tubing (CSST). For underground propane line installation, you can use polyethylene (PE).

While you can install a gas dryer yourself, we recommend hiring a pro to help with any work involving gas (safety first!). Keep in mind that your gas dryer will have to meet specific codes and standards. While it will cost more money to work with a professional, it will be money well spent knowing that it’s hooked up correctly.

It can cost anywhere from $200 to $5,000 to repair a gas line. The cost may vary depending on where the problem is located. For example, if there’s a small gas leak somewhere that’s easy to access, the cost could be on the lower side.
