Dave swung by yesterday and did a great job at fixing the problem I was having with a couple of jets that were no longer working. Yet he didn’t just fix that. He sorted out another problem or two with the hot tub because he took the time to look the whole tub over. His preventative actions were GREATLY appreciated. Were he not so thorough the lights that needed replacing would have caused system failure down the line. THANK YOU DAVE! In addition, most of the work he did fell under warranty so I was happy about that. Having Mainely Tubs sell and service your hot tub is a no brainer. Building an inground pool is a job best left to the pros. Excavating the area and building the pool requires heavy equipment and specialized training, and pools have complex plumbing and electrical systems. Unless you’re experienced in these areas, you’re better off hiring a pool contractor to make sure the job gets done safely and correctly. 

A retaining wall can only function as a fence if it’s high enough on all sides to prevent someone from accidentally falling into the pool. However, most retaining walls retain dirt, which means their purpose is not related to safety. There would need to be nothing on the other side of the wall for it to be considered a fence, but in that case, it wouldn’t retain anything and would cease to be a retaining wall.  

Evaporation causes up to 70% of outdoor pools’ energy losses, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. While you can’t completely prevent evaporation, different types of pool covers can help a lot. Pool enclosures, however, don’t do much to stop evaporation—and the cost to build a pool enclosure likely won’t tempt you to try.

Small animals, particularly rats and mice, like to burrow inside pool heaters. To keep them out, seal any entry points with caulk or steel wool. Then, place mothballs inside or around your pool heater. As a final measure of protection, you can cover the pool heater in hardware cloth or wood paneling to further block entry points.

Your pool enclosure’s lifespan will depend on the type and materials, but on average, you can expect it to last 10 to 15 years. The climate and level of maintenance will also affect how long your pool enclosure lasts.
