"Mr. Stiles and his helper did quality work. They started and schedule and finished on time. His estimate was competitive with other bids. They were neat in their work and cleaning up after themselves. We needed a small amount of carpentry/repair; they did a good job with it. It was a pleasure doing business with Mr. Stiles."

"After watching Cowboy Painting meticulously update the exterior of a home across the street we hired them to paint the exterior of our home to include two large decks. From the first meeting, Sam and Calla were committed to answering our questions, helping us choose the PERFECT color for both the home and decks, and the utmost care and respect for our property. Both Sam and Calla were onsite every day and allowed enough time for set up and clean up while still putting at least 8-10 hours of painting. The covered the appropriate surfaces of the home and gardens/grounds to protect them and cleaned up the property EVERY day prior to leaving. Sam and Calla were pet/kid friendly and working around a brand new puppy who needed to go out frequently and young kids who asked many questions. They use the highest quality Sherwin Williams products to ensure that their craftsmanship lasts. If you are looking for an honest, owner-operated, HARD-WORKING company to paint your home, choose Cowboy Painting!! They will work to ensure you LOVE what they have done to transform your home."

"Painters arrived exactly on time and accomplished all tasks the same day. The manually stripped the deck and applied two coats of stain. They carefully cleaned and then painted the foundation concrete as it had got dirty over the years. They also scraped, caulked and painted a large bump-out window off our living room.

"I have used Brad at more than one house to do interior paint, deck staining, and fence staining. He recently completed a large interior paint and deck staining job for me. He is professional, on schedule, and cleans the site when done. His work is first rate even when starting with surfaces in rough condition. Brad goes above and beyond to make sure you are happy and is very easy to deal with. I highly recommend Bradleys Painting and will use them again."

"Mr. Adam Martin who was very personable and humble, and his "Team" of highly professionally trained workers, worked tirelessly the entire day to do the install right. They removed all old materials, repair damaged part of the roof and gave special attention to detail. The Army has a saying "Second to None"!. Xpress' estimate of material was very accurate with minimal waste. Xpress provided a satellite certified roof footage report that was very accurate. Adam personally walked me through all the numbers adding up the the amount of squares required to complete the nearly 4,000 ft roof with 17 pitches and valleys. One crazy roof. Very accurate on underlining materials. If your looking for a roofing professionals look no further..! I would highly recommend Xpress, Parkville, Md to anyone looking for a Great hard working Team of Workers. Don, Pasadena, Md"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Various kinds of substances and deck preservatives act as protective coatings for wood to prevent rot, which is caused by water getting into the wood and creating cracks and splits. Stains, paints, and sealants are the three best options to protect your wood, but there are also oils, varnishes, and waxes available. You’ll need to reapply sealant at least once per year, and you should inspect your wood deck regularly to look for signs of damage or general wear and tear.

Painting a damaged pool deck is not recommended if the substrate is crumbling, cracking, spalling, or otherwise actively deteriorating. Continuing deterioration will result in the paint also delaminating or flaking off the damaged surface. Minor damage such as chips or hairline cracks that are not actively deteriorating can often be repaired enough to paint over. A damaged pool deck with a lot of cracking and deterioration should be replaced for best results.

When staining a deck, don’t skip surface prep, avoid staining damp or dirty boards, and don’t apply stain in extreme heat, cold, or wet conditions. Never overload the wood with a stain, as too much can cause tackiness or peeling. Also, don’t forget to test a small area first to ensure the color and finish look right.

It is not always necessary to remove old stain before restaining a deck. If the previous stain is in good condition and is compatible with the new stain, you may be able to apply a new coat after thorough cleaning. However, if the old stain is in bad condition, flaking, or peeling, it is best to remove it completely to ensure an even surface and proper adhesion for the new coat. Staining over a damaged layer can lead to an uneven finish and poor penetration. For best results, test a small area first and consult the stain manufacturer's guidelines.

A wood deck requires annual cleaning and regular inspections for loose or broken boards, nails, and screws. It should be refinished by applying a stain or sealer every two to three years to protect the wood from water damage, rot, mildew, and sun fading. The exact frequency can depend on the climate and the deck's exposure to sun and moisture. If your deck is painted, it will need repainting approximately every 10 years. Signs that your deck needs refinishing include faded, splintering, or warping boards.
