"Keys responded quickly and was able to address the issue in short order, removing possible asbestos tile in under a day. Very good customer service and relatively thorough, especially with environmental control of the work space. I found a few small bits of leftover tile and nails afterward, hence, the 4.5 stars, but overall happy with the work!"

"No one expects or wants to deal with asbestos removal but after removing old carpet in an old home we unexpectedly found tiles that tested positive for asbestos. Compliance Construction went above and beyond to handle this remediation even when it took much longer than they originally anticipated. James Lang in particular was incredibly responsive to our needs. I hope that I never need asbestos remediation again but if I do I will know who to call."

"A1 did an excellent job end to end, from scheduling and performing a free estimate to two days of asbestos removal and cleanup. The result passed an independent air test and looked spotlessâ they went above and beyond for a reasonable fee."

"The service was good. He showed up on time and did the test. The only problem I had was that he is not a full service, he only checks for asbestos and does not remove. The test took longer than I was told, but I don't think he had a choice. Overall he was ok, just not a perfect match for my needs."

"I had a possible asbestos concern after pulling up my carpet and finding the black tile adhesive you would find underneath the AVT (house built in 1960, since flipped) We were attempting to replace our carpet, but the company wanted a negative test before they completed the work. Mr. Rudd had no problem coming out same day and collecting samples on multiple parts of the basement. He communicated how long it would take and sure enough, got the results back today. He was very thorough and knowledgeable on the subject and gave recommendations in the event of a positive result. Got the results back and can now give the green light to the carpet company all thanks to Mr. Rudd's work! Great job. Would hire again in the future, and he emphasized any questions or concerns to call him anytime. Great work and great customer service. Thank you!"

Small jobs welcome

"Asbestos Removal Gabriel didnâ t just come to my home to give me an estimate, he gave me peace of mind. He explained the process of what would take place from beginning to end and answered all my questions. After the work was completed an air quality specialist came in and tested the air to make sure itâ s safe. Gabriel took the time to go over everything that was done as well as the test results. He will also send you a copy of those results. Gabriel is not just a contractor, he is a professional who stands by his work and cares about his clients. He builds a relationship of trust and friendship. He provides quality work at a reasonable price and has an EXCEPTIONAL team! I would highly recommend E&G Environmental LLC."

Asbestos Removal questions, answered by experts

Whether or not to buy a home containing asbestos is ultimately a decision for the homebuyer, and there are several things to consider. When in good condition and contained, asbestos is unlikely to present a health risk—it’s when those tiny fibers are loose and airborne that they become a problem. Consider any renovations you plan on doing to the home that could disturb existing asbestos and the cost of removal. If an inspection finds asbestos in a home on the market, you could negotiate with the seller for a lower price, though this isn’t a sure thing.

Power washing asbestos siding can be hazardous and isn't recommended. The power washer's high pressure can disturb the siding and release harmful asbestos fibers into the air. Rather than attempting to DIY it, hire a professional trained in asbestos handling to tackle any exterior cleaning.

Vermiculite insulation can be hazardous if it contains asbestos. Asbestos fibers, when released into the air and inhaled, can pose significant health risks. The EPA recommends leaving vermiculite insulation undisturbed to avoid potential exposure. It is crucial to have vermiculite insulation tested by a certified professional to determine if it contains asbestos. If asbestos is present, proper precautions should be taken, including containment or removal by licensed abatement professionals.

Asbestos siding can be dangerous, but it doesn't necessarily pose a health risk if it's in good condition and left undisturbed. The danger comes from inhaling asbestos fibers, which can be released if the siding is damaged, deteriorating, crumbling, or disturbed during remodeling or repairs. Exposure to these airborne fibers can cause serious, life-threatening diseases like asbestosis (lung scarring), mesothelioma (an aggressive cancer), and other lung cancers.

If your asbestos siding is intact, the general recommendation is to leave it alone. However, if it's damaged or you plan to renovate, it's crucial to handle it safely. Due to the significant health risks and the difficulty of containing the fibers, it is not recommended to perform any asbestos work yourself. Instead, you should hire a professional asbestos removal company to inspect, repair, encapsulate, or remove the material. The presence of asbestos can also negatively impact your property's value.

According to the National Cancer Institute, asbestos-related diseases can take anywhere from 10 to 40 years for symptoms to appear. The health risks increase with prolonged and heavier exposure. Risk factors also include:

  • Amount of exposure

  • Chemical makeup, size, and shape of the asbestos fibers

  • Length of time a person is exposed to asbestos

  • Genetic factors

  • Source of exposure (direct exposure or secondhand exposure from someone directly exposed)
