"We visited the show room, picked a grade and color we thought was right for us and took a sample home. We visited Home Depot to comparison shop and although we didn't find the identical carpeting, we were able to see that Carpet Concepts pricing was competitive. The salesman then made an appointment to measure the rooms to be carpeted. I discussed whether the 12 or 15 foot width made more sense. We finally agreed on the 12 foot width which knocked about $250 off the final price and that's because the initial estimate specified the 15 foot width. Each installation is unique. The guy who removed the old carpeting was clever and efficient; he cut smaller pieces, rolled and removed them as he worked. Bonus: he was a talker and sounded just like Jeff Foxworthy. I asked him to say, "You know you're a red neck! The two installers were experienced and took pride in their work. I am very pleased with the seaming job. We are very pleased with the quality and workmanship of the carpet."

Carpet Stretching questions, answered by experts

Carpet tiles are less expensive than traditional carpet. The average cost of carpet installation is $1,800, or $3 to $11 per square foot. In comparison, carpet tiles cost $2.50 to $11 apiece and can often be bought in bulk cartons. Since you can more easily DIY carpet tiles, you may be able to save on installation costs, too.

There could be several reasons why your carpet padding has adhered to the floor. Some of the most common reasons include:

  • There was intentional gluing or stapling to the surface.

  • The polyurethane and floor bonded over years of wear.

  • Pet urine, spills, or other substances leaked through the carpet and created a sticky surface.

If the carpeting in the home has not been changed in a long time, clearing off the padding underneath could be difficult. Pet urine can wreak havoc on carpeting and the flooring underneath. If you plan to reinstall carpeting, remember to use proper cleaning techniques for removing pet urine odors to prevent future problems.

Bumps, wrinkles, or detachment often require stretching for smoothness.

You can save money on labor costs by removing your old carpet before the professionals come in to install the new carpet. Just make sure to clear it with your contractor ahead of time. You might also be able to cut costs by buying carpet at certain times of year when it’s less expensive. These periods include late December to mid-January and late spring to early summer.

If you live in a region with high humidity, carpet bubbling can occur regularly. A dehumidifier can help keep your carpet flat during the most humid months.
