As our designer, Sean was easy-going, accommodating and patient in explaining our options. He promptly created the 3d pdf files with the design of our kitchen, which were helpful to have throughout the project. Adam was in charge of our project, and his responsiveness and understanding were outstanding. At one point we were a bit unhappy with a corner cabinet, but reluctantly we felt we needed to "settle" because there was not sufficient space for a Super Susan. Adam made some research and promptly contacted us with a solution that was perfect for enhanced functionality. Last but not least, Ismar, our foreman on the job was professional, responsive, pleasant, and amazingly skilled. He and his team worked diligently on the electrical portion, cabinet installation, backsplash, appliance installation, and painting. "Chris Marshall of North Star helped me from conception to finish with a 203k loan on a short sale property. It was a long process that I never could have made it through without the assistance of this company. After waiting from May 2016 until Dec 22 2016 to close on the house, Chris and his team got to work on Jan 4 and were finished on March 31, 2017. They encountered major renovations not planned for when they discovered termite damage which required a whole new flooring system. They went in and replaced everything; laying down pea gravel and sealing the crawl space with a vapor barrier and foam insulation after supporting the house with a steal beam. That was the unexpected part. Then they went to work completely renovating the walls and floors top to bottom with care do that the final result was a completely new home painted beautifully, crown molding, special doors and fixtures. They remodeled the bathroom by enlarging it, setting beautiful ceramic tile and fixtures including a cottage style vanity with quartz counter top. They put a whole new roof on the house, turned an outbuilding into a barn, built a 8 x 20 screened porch off the bedrooms, graded and landscaped around the whole house burying the drainoff from the new gutter system and running a water line to the barn. I am just giving you a brief idea of the enormous amount of work done jn such a short amount of time. All the way, Chris Marshall discussed progress, options, and kept me informed about everything. He went the extra mile to get everything done and oaid close attention to every little detail. He passed all inspections with flying colors and got me into the home by March 12,2017. You cant imagine just how much work was done all with a smile and devotion to getting it done right with quality materials and expert workmanship. It is quite scary to trust a contractor these days. Often they do a lousy job and leave you high and dry with work unfinished;saying they guarntee their work but not doing so. This company is trustworthy and reliable on every level and phase of a remodel project. Any question or concern I had, was responded to within the hour not the day. There were changes needed to the bid and Chris kept it financially feasible without sacrificing the overall look as he went along. He kept me on course and hopeful even when facing a real disastrous situation with the termite damage. I cannot tell you how greatful I am to have had North Star doing the work. They not only brought a dream into reality, they stepped it up to a higher level by adding all the bells and whistles. My home looks like a magazine and I am so pleased. "We scheduled an appointment for an estimate with Justin LeBlanc, from Adam Contracting LLC for Saturday, May 9th at 7:30AM. We woke up early in order to meet with Justin. Justin never showed, never called and never emailed us letting us know that he couldn't make it. I emailed him later in the morning asking him why he missed our appointment. I received an email the following day from him apologizing for missing the appointment. He said he had a family emergency and we could reschedule. A courtesy email that takes 30 seconds to write stating that he couldn't make it would have been appreciated. In my eyes, no call and no email to let me know he couldn't make it demonstrated that he didn't have much respect for my time considering I arranged my weekend to meet with him that morning. I understand situations arise but I find it incredibly rude to not let the other person know that you can't make it.
We rescheduled with Justin for 8AM the following Saturday. Justin arrived on time and we showed him the two projects we wanted to have completed. Justin said he would have an estimate to us by Monday or Tuesday. I received an estimate from him on Monday. The first project was a small ground level 69 sq ft deck. Justin quoted the estimate for this project to be $3,725 for supplies and labor! We went to Lowes ourselves and bought all of the wood, concrete, AND tools for $243!. Over $3,400 in labor is a lot to me for such a small project.
The second estimate was to replace 6 hollow core slab interior doors (Doors only, not the frame), 8 bi-fold closet doors, and the front door. The estimate for this project only included labor since we are ordering all of the doors ourselves. The estimate for the labor for this project came back at $3,825. I emailed him stating this I believed this estimate was extremely high. He stated the cost of the front door to install was $575, which is reasonable to me given the complexity of the install. That means he is charging $3,250 in labor only for interior doors and closet doors. This translates to a labor cost of $232 per door.
He said the best he could do would be to take 10% off for being an Angie's List member... I asked him to redo the estimate if we took all of the old doors off ourselves and we stained the deck ourselves. He came back with an estimate of $6,400 for both projects. I thought this was still incredibly high for how small these projects were. I told him we would not be moving forward with this estimate.
It was a very disappointing experience and we were hoping we would be able to use this company for other projects in our home.

Once the work began, Manny and the rest of the guys did a great job—they were on site promptly each day and were clearly working hard over the three days of the project. Manny was very communicative and easy to work with and even went out of his way to help us with some extra items in the yard. The crawlspace looks awesome now—clean and dry!
