Customers say: Quality work

"We were informed by Washington Gas that there was a gas leak in the attic. Through HomeAdvisor, we were referred to Evergreen Plumbing Company. We contacted the company and explained the problem. We were immediately connected to Mr. Javon Green. Mr. Green was polite, knowledgeable, and provided excellent service the same evening. We highly recommend this company."

"Backyard Ponds is magic. I have a small backyard pond, stream and waterfall that have been
leaking for years. Various workmen had poured concrete into it, slathered mortar
between stones and sprayed special waterfall foam all over the sides of it. My
pond, stream and waterfall continued to leak. Hilary of Backyard Ponds looked at it for a while, moved one
stone and fixed the leak. How did you do that! I yelled. Well after you work on
enough of these things you get an eye for what the problem could be. Then she
vacuumed all the mud that had been clogging the pum , reattached the waterline
and pump that I could never get to stay together, restacked the rocks along the
edge of the stream so they actually sat on top of each other instead of sliding
down at all angles, and added a few strategically placed rocks to hide the pump
and waterline and cover the rubber sides of the stream. She added a regulator to
the water line so I could make the water run fast and slow. And more. I have had
a pond and stream for fifteen years, and many people have worked on it, from
expensive professioanl landscapers to guys I would swear the contractor picked
up off the street corner. The difference in using someone who specializes in
ponds is stunning. Backyard ponds is
magic.

"We are still in the installation process, but the workers are hard working knowledgeable, approachable and friendly. Jennifer is one of the owners and her honest, upfront and knowledge about ponds and what it would require to install my pond, especially since I had a big hole from a previous attempt (By a family member) is why I chose Backyard Ponds. Jennifer gave me a fair and reasonable price within my budget. She also sat down with me and has educated me on how best to keep my pond eco-friendly and low maintenance. I know that I am going to love there work once the pond is completed. I would highly recommend this company. They do quality work at a reasonable price."

"Cindy Shuart is an award winning designer.  The best there is. She re-did our front landscape with a beautiful mix of plantings and stone.  We used her in the past for our pool landscape and patio.  It include a fabulous waterfall, the use of river stone and a great mix of shrubs and perennials.  That design is now 6  years old and it has stood the test of time superbly."

"This project could have been the type to cause months of stress and frustration with any other contractor, but Christian and the folks at 5th Gen made sure it didn't. We had the floor of an entire room ripped up because of water damage, including the structure down to the dirt and part of the wall. Their estimate was thorough and their pricing was very fair, especially given the level of service. They were always timely, attentive, and professional, and somehow kept the work space very clean. In the end, the only way to tell any work had been done was that it looked better than before. We're looking forward to working with them on some fun projects in the future, like remodeling."

Fountains questions, answered by experts

Deep clean your koi pond at least once a year to keep your fish healthy and your pond in good shape. Water testing, debris removal, and partial water changes should be performed weekly. Seasonal professional service will ensure everything is clean and functioning properly.

One reason you may want to fill in your pond is the cost of maintenance. Pond cleaning may cost about $1,000 for an annual cleanup, or monthly visits may cost $75 to $100 per visit. If you don’t want to spend that much per year on pond upkeep, you may consider filling in your pond.

Even if you empty your pond before the winter, there’s a good chance it will refill naturally. It’s ideal in most cases, then, to leave water in your pond and winterize it instead. This method will prevent ice damage and protect wildlife. Plus, it’ll lessen the steps required to reopen your pond in the spring.

You have several options for your pond by getting your yard ready for the winter. You can winterize your koi pond by ensuring it’s at least 5 feet deep so it doesn’t freeze completely, installing a pond heater or aerator and having it run at all times, and installing a deicer if temperatures are dangerously low for an extended period. You can also choose to shut down your pond for the winter by removing all the wildlife in it and bringing it indoors, cleaning out the filter and pump, and then covering the pond with a tarp.

Seeps and springs form when groundwater reaches the earth’s surface. The main differences between them are the amount of water and the flow rate. Seeps are smaller than springs and consist of water that’s stagnant or flows slowly. Springs contain more water and flow more quickly.
