Phoenix Home Services Inc

This is the second project we have hired Phoenix Homes Services (PHS) for, the first was a complete remodel of our bathroom which we still love. This time we worked with them to convert our garage to a brand-new room with full bath, laundry closet, and bonus shelving. The timeline for the project from start to finish has been about 6 months. In June we did an initial walk through with one of the principals to discuss options. Having worked on many homes in our neighborhood and in the area, he is well versed on some of the challenges that occur with remodeling older homes. As part of the walk through he explained areas that may require extra attention like electrical and foundations. This helped set expectations for the project and gave us information to use to set up a contingency fund as a backup plan. Once a general concept was agreed upon, we established the contract and began work on the design. The initial design from the designer really highlighted the possibility of the space. He patiently worked with us to adjust it so it perfectly fit our needs. Communication was good as they worked the permit process, and we got lucky that construction could start a couple of weeks earlier than planned (not guaranteed by PHS, it was truly luck). Demolition work can be loud and chaotic. Since we were living and working from home during this process. PHS made sure the site was as orderly a possible and did what they could to accommodate our meeting schedules. We also received assistance with picking finishes and items for the space. As warned, issues were identified with the electrical and foundation. Because of the initial prep discussion, we were prepared and able to work with PHS on a solution that brought everything up to code and would support the room. We were provided weekly email updates on the status of the project and the crew showed up on time every day. Each step of the project was explained, and recommendations were presented so we could make the decision that was best for us. Everyone we worked with was kind and patient, which is so important when involved in something that can create so much anxiety. Our project was completed within the timeline provided. One of the nicest surprises was with the bonus shelving, which I just asked to be built. Because PHS focuses on the details, the shelving was solidly built and painted. I was able to begin using it while the rest of the project was completed. Overall, we are ecstatic with the results; everyone has expressed how lovely it is. The process was well managed, and we would definitely work with them on any future renovations we need

Elite Contractors Services Inc

Choosing a contractor was as difficult as it was frustrating in the beginning. Many places were unresponsive, too “busy” or would only take your project if you’d spend “X” dollars. I hated this process and thought it would never end, but that was until I came across Elite Contractors Services on Angies. Their gallery on Angies doesn’t speak to the true breadth and diversity of work he has done (I’ve told him, he needs to put more photos up, LOL - a little joke between him and I) but after working with him I understand why he hasn’t; he and his wife are busy responding to and making sure his customers are happy. We met Ken soon after engaging him. He is a very pleasant man with a wealth of experience and knowledge in the construction industry, and although he loves to have a good laugh he’s also a straight shooter, which I greatly appreciate. To have a General Contractor be as responsive and interested in your project was a breath of fresh air; even better was that he continued this responsiveness throughout the entire project! Once we had a contract established Ken put us in touch with his excellent Architect Ned. With his excellent eye for design and helpful suggestions, we were very pleased with our final design and couldn't be happier. We were ready and so was Ken. Some preliminary engineering checks were performed on our foundation and it was discovered that we didn’t have sufficient footers to support a second-story. Ken gave us the options we had and so we moved ahead with the additional scope of underpinning our foundation and lowering our basement by two feet since the slab would be destroyed. It was January 2022 at this point and even with supply chain constraints (especially with wood), COVID and inflation craziness Ken as he was somehow ahead of the curve and prepared enough with our project to be able to provide us with a 6 month estimate for everything to complete (July timeframe). I was skeptical to say the least and especially anxious because I had a construction loan with an interest rate lock banking on this man’s estimate. The underpinning was completed in two months as promised, all done by hand, insane!! The second story began and we were able to meet the entire Elite Contractors Service’s family! The workers Ken employs are all amazing people and excellent professionals who work exceedingly hard and put their heart and souls into their craft. They were also so efficient, they ripped off our old roof, and put up the new roof within a week. and even though they didn’t have to during those few days in between, they placed a huge tarp over our place to protect our home. I felt they treated our home as if it was their own home. In comparison, a house down the street from us was roof-less for a month before they got their materials in to build; meaning it was exposed to the weather and elements. During the project I was introduced to Ana Blanco, Ken’s better half who helped us with expenses, material purchasing such as tile, vanities, fixtures, lighting etc. She was super sweet, helpful and made that process straightforward and worry-free. When the finishing touches were ready to be made, Ken’s team were once again so helpful. They would ensure every detail was accounted for, especially specifics, such as mirror, light heights, or the placement of vanities for example. They painted and touched up spaces part of renovation, but also spaces that were affected indirectly by construction, and of course corrected any issues you had immediately. Ken called this his “Elite Treatment”, and Elite it was! My wife and I put our faith in Ken wholeheartedly, and we are glad we did, even with a few ordering issues and special orders he and his team were still able to hit the promised 6 month mark almost perfectly! I think Ken’s new nickname ought to be the “Magic Man.” We feel blessed to have Ken and his team on the job for home renovation, because not only did we make our home beautiful we were able to make a few friends along the way

Blue Horizon Construction LLC

Rusty Holt of Blue Horizon Construction was the general contractor on building a custom home for me and my wife. He consulted with us and coordinated a variety of subcontractors to make our dream home a reality. He provided sources of information to help us to make crucial decisions on the types of fixtures and appliances that needed to go into the home. He was in constant contact with us to inform us of the status of things due to the supply chain slow down of materials. Rusty displayed a customer oriented attitude sprinkled with humor that made him easy and pleasant to work with

We are super grateful and happy that we chose to work with PHS, Brandon, and Juan for our total home renovation in NE DC. The scope of our home renovation was to: tear out all existing hardwood, tear out the staircase across 4 levels of our home, reconfigure all interior walls, lay new hardwood flooring, tear our a chimney across 2 floors, and add a bathroom to our attic. This was a near, full-gut job. We ended up not touching our kitchen nor basement at all due to budget constraints. Breaking down our experience working with them: - Contract: PHS was one of the last contractors we reached out to, but Brandon ended up being one of the fastest to respond, come our to the house to take a look, and then eventually submit an incredibly detailed proposal. Brandon was willing to answer a million questions about the contract language, amend language where needed, and customize the proposal to us. Brandon was also willing to work with us to refine scope, separately price items, and adjust the contract in some areas to fit our budget. PHS came in middle of the pack on price which made us feel comfortable about our choice. We felt confident in Brandon and PHS that they would not nickel-and-dime us, bury us in change orders, or inflate the price in anyway. - Communication: I was blown away with the level of communication we had from start to finish on this project. Brandon would respond to every text, voicemail, or email in <24 hrs, and in most cases within an hour or two. I don't think a single day went by in our 10.5 month project where we didn't hear from Brandon or Juan in some regard. Brandon and Juan took effort to talk through choices, offer advice (both creative and construction), and ensure we were kept in the loop during months we were out of town. - Quality of Work: Brandon's onsite construction manager Juan was an absolute pleasure to work with. Juan has immense attention to detail, was willing to correct errors or minor mistakes without any questions/issue, and there were absolutely ZERO cut corners on our job. Brandon and PHS' mottos of "no cutting corners," "doing things the right way," and "making their customers happy/putting them first" were adhered-to from start to finish. When there were design flaws that our separate architect didn't catch, Brandon and team took the liberty to get it done the right way (with our permission) despite what the design showed. Near the very end of the project when we noticed light switch was in the wrong place, Brandon and team solved the problem with no questions asked. Brandon and Juan were truly interested in making us happy, ensuring we loved our home, and making sure they did things the right way, with high quality, and high professionalism. We didn't notice any cut-corners or "half-assed" work. - Schedule: if there is one less-than-stellar thing to report, it's that our initial 4-6 month construction schedule (after building permit issuance) ended up taking 9.5 months with a few odds and ends still to fix after we moved in. To be fair, there were some owner-directed scope changes that may have impacted the schedule on the magnitude of a few weeks, but nothing that would have caused work to completely stop in the meantime. Certainly Brandon and Juan hit some snags that were outside of their control: vendors getting COVID, scheduling delays getting inspections done, key staff getting sick, a handful of weather delays, but frankly work did not move as rapidly at times as we would have expected. The work was always done with high craftsmanship and quality, but there were several instances where it seemed like little-to-no work would get done in a given week. I think that perhaps the key staff and subs got spread thin on some competing projects, but things picked up once a separate project or two of theirs wrapped up and they could dedicate more staff to our project. All of this being said, Brandon was absolutely a man of his word and honored the clause in our contract that compensated us for the schedule overage per terms of our contract. The rent reimbursement clause in our contract was a big reason we decided to work with PHS and Brandon, and we were happy that he upheld his end of that bargain. It seems like schedules will always be busted on construction projects, so I don't think the schedule overage was anything unique to PHS, but our experience was no different. However, again, PHS and Brandon are unique and very accommodating to such schedule issues with their rent reimbursement promises. We cannot endorse PHS, Brandon, Juan, and their entire team enough. We were very nervous picking a contractor to gut and renovate our house while we left the area for several months, and Brandon and his team went above and beyond to assure us that everything would be okay, keep us in the loop, perform the work with high standards of quality, and be as accommodating to us as possible. My wife and I had absolutely no experience renovating a house, but Brandon and Juan made it easy on us. We trusted them with our family's home and we think you can too. We would hire them again in a heartbeat

REZ Electric & Construction

After two failed General Contractors I brought Rez Electric on-board to add a screened-in porch on the third level of my home. Rob and his Team immediately and showed me problems with the new build as well as the existing structure. Due to exceptionally poor workmanship on both the new and original structure, it took almost two years and a lot of money to complete the renovations. Rob and his Team were diligent, provided high-quality work and NEVER GAVE UP! At the end of the day, Rez Electric practically rebuilt our home including, but not necessarily limited to, framing, all new windows and doors (including sliders), all new siding (cement board), new front and rear porches and a new patio, new flat roof-top decks, new lighting, millwork, whole-home generator, dry-wall work and painting (interior & exterior) - plus an awesome screened in porch (the original project!). Rob also coordinate the addition of gutters, landscaping and fencing. He remained in constant contact, initiated and returned phone-calls, emails and texts. He always check to see if we were satisfied. Rob and his Team restored my faith in contractors

Dave did a wonderful job helping us re-build our house. Starting from the design, permits, foundation, framing, and all the way until we got our occupancy permit. We are glad we worked with Dave for this big project, he made the process more easy with the help of his knowledge and support. We definitely recommend him to all our friends and family for any of their contracting needs

Elite Contractors Services Inc

We had a great experience with Ken and his team on our Rosemont, Alexandria expansion project. After sketching out what we wanted, we met with several contractors to request bids. Not only was Ken’s bid competitive, but he suggested several significant changes to the plans that we ended up incorporating into our design. The entire design / build process was fast and efficient, and we are extremely pleased with finished product. Throughout the construction, Ken was onsite daily and responsive to any issues that came up. It was clear that Ken has a wealth of experience in the field and enjoys what he does. I can’t say enough good things about the crew – they were friendly, talented, and professional. Their attention to detail was impressive and they went above and beyond in all aspects of their work. We also enjoyed working with Ana on the kitchen and bath design and finish selections. At the end of the day, Elite Contractors Services exceeded our expectations, and we hope to work with the team again on another project

Willis Builders Inc

Matt is a very kind person whose team was very nice to work with. They were respectful, clean, trustworthy, and made sure they listen to our wishes and concerns. They worked very hard so we could move in before Christmas. The projects after that were slower but we had added several projects in the process and overall they got everything accomplished in about 4 months. Matt always reacted on time to e-mails and calls. Sometimes is was hard to reach his team to find out when they would be coming and what they would work on but one call to Matt and he made sure we got a reply. Green products and limited chemicals were very important to us and his team not only respected that but also collaborated with us which products to use. We had a major water problem in the basement and they were able to fix it with additional drains, a sump pump and a successful concepts to redirect the water from the house. We have had a lot of rain so far and the basement has been dry, yeah! The built-in closets were done by a different team and took more time than we expected. They didn't turn out the way we wanted but Matt worked with us on that, reduced the price and had the team do some changes. We heard many horror stories about other contractors from friends so we were worried starting this big project. Overall we had a very good experience with Willis Builder. The majority of projects were done very nicely and to our satisfaction and Matt was willing to work with us on the couple things we were not so satisfied with. We also know, should there be anything in the future, Matt will not hesitate to come and fix it. We would work with him and his team anytime again

"We had a big project in an old home and no real experience with contractors. We wanted to remove 3 walls to open our living room, dining room, and kitchen. We also wanted new kitchen cabinets, floor repairs and installed new floors. WBG made us feel relaxed and helped guide us through all different decisions to be made (we didn’t even think of many). Having an old home, we also ran into unexpected problems. They did an excellent job in all the areas of plumbing, electrical, and carpentry. They stayed on schedule and the price was very reasonable. We would definitely recommend them for any home projects.

"My wife and I had a great experience dealing with Richards’ Homes and would recommend them to anyone who is looking for an honest experienced builder that takes great pride in their work. We built a second home on a mountain side in Front Royal so we were not able to visit as often as we would have liked to see the progress being made. But we were always pleased with the craftsmanship and the progress when we visited. The process was smooth with just a few hiccups along the way. Mr. Richard treated my home as if it was his own making sure everything was done correctly. At times, I felt like his trades and subs often went above and beyond and gave me the best service possible. Overall, we are very pleased with the workmanship and the completed product exceeded all of our expectations. Thank you for the beautiful new home, we are very proud of it. "Ec roofing has a hands-on owner named Mike Grap. He is honest, hardworking and very kind. I am very thorough with my projects and really like them done well. During his estimate visit, Mike spent over 20 minutes going through every facet of the roof. The same thoroughness was put into doing the roof so well. He did not leave out any details and did a stellar job,. While still being competitively priced. His assistant Stephanie was there with me every step of the way, with great enthuse to get the job done right. We had more than a roof install, we had a great a great roofing experience. The guys working on our roof did it with a smile. They cleaned up every last spec when they were finished. Thank you Mike, Stephanie, Tanya, Jason and the rest of the fine people at Ec roofing.
