"Everything went very well. The company was very responsive in letting us know when they would be out and the guys showed up on time. They worked quickly and cleaned everything up. The trees look good and we're happy with the service. We would use them again."

"It was a tie between Hometown and another contractor, and I chose the other one because that business was closer to my home. However, I was VERY impressed with Hometown's clear and prompt communication and responsiveness to my request for a bid, as well as their follow through as I made my decision. It was after I'd committed to the other one that learned more about the professional credentials of the Hometown arborist. I will definitely consider Hometown as a front runner the next time."

"Outstanding. Great service and very reasonable pricing. Gordon and his team removed 4 large trees, two bushes and performed general trimming of some other large trees on the property. They were efficient and safe -- clearing all debris at the end. Would hire again and highly recommend."

"I took advantage of an Angie's List offer for Milton's Tree Service: pay $199 for $400 worth of tree service. When Milton came to my home, I asked him about trimming a tree and removing a tree. I had 3 mature trees growing too close to each other, and I wanted to preserve the one in the middle (a crepe myrtle) by trimming the tree to its left, and removing the one on the right. Milton said there was no need to remove the tree, and instead suggested trimming a long row of leyland cypress trees. I agreed to that work, since I know that leylands over time can break or collapse. Two things did not go well with the work on the leylands. First, Milton's crew brought in a cherry picker. That was fine as he had told me in advance he would need to use a cherry picker to reach the tops of the leylands, and so as not to damage my lawn, he needed to make sure the ground was not wet since he'd be driving the equipment on my lawn. However, what his crew did not do is check for sprinkler heads in the ground. And since the leylands are on the edge of my property, they drove the cherry picker on my lawn and my neighbor's. My neighbor came out of his house very upset that the picker was on his property, and the potential for damaging the sprinkler heads. Fortunately it didn't damage my sprinkler heads nor my neighbor's, but they should have checked for the heads first, and they should have notified my neighbor they'd be driving on his lawn. The second issue was how much Milton charged me for the service. He gave me the estimate before he did the work (weeks in advance) which I assumed did not include the $400 credit. Instead, after the work was done, he said his fee included the credit, therefore, I had to pay $400 more than I expected. I really think he charged me an extra $200 to $400 to cover the value of the coupon, especially since he gave me an estimate that was not based on anything quantitative such as number of hours of labor, or number of leyland trees to be trimmed. My suggestion would be to know how much a service costs before getting an Angie's List coupon so you know whether you're getting the full value of the coupon. In Milton's favor, the trimming work his crew did on the leylands was excellent."

"Axcobar should be your first choice for tree cutting and removal. Their service was outstanding in every way. Melvin responded in person to my emergency call after the recent tornado (microburst) in Olney took out six of the large, old trees in my yard. One of the trees was hanging over the deck and threatened to create more damage to my house if not skillfully removed. Axcobar showed up with a fabulous crew and a couple of trucks with shredders attached. These folks worked tirelessly over two days to cut, shred, and remove the trees that fell and the ones that were damaged and still standing. In addition, they removed all of the broken branches, twigs, and assorted debris in the area. We can not say enough good things about this service. Oh btw, their pricing was extremely competitive and fair. We will use them again and highly recommend them to others."

Land Clearing Services questions, answered by experts

ALTA/ACSM surveys are the most comprehensive type of land survey and, as such, tend to be the most expensive. These surveys have standardized guidelines and reports and are used in many kinds of real estate transactions to ensure consistent and accurate information is available for properties.

If you or your mortgage lender think your land survey needs to be more accurate, double-check the survey report and get at least a second opinion from the original surveyor and an inspector, if possible. Although it’s unlikely, even reputable surveying companies can make mistakes. An inaccurate survey can cause problems down the road in the case of any property line disputes, so it’s best to resolve any inaccuracies as quickly as possible.

Yes, new home construction will always require building permits, no matter where you live. In most cases, you’ll need a general construction permit, along with plumbing and electrical permits for the utility lines in your home. Depending on where you live, you’ll likely find that you also need permits for things like connection to a sewage system or installing exterior components, like decks, driveways, patios, and curb cutouts. Leave navigating the permits required for new home construction to a professional to ensure your home is built legally and safely.

If you can’t find any records online, you’ll need to contact your county clerk’s office to do further research. They should have property records on file, or can at least point you in the right direction of who to contact. You can also speak with your neighbors about when their houses were built because they were likely built around the same time.

Soil testers and licensed excavators are often the professionals you hire if you need a perc test. In some cases, structural engineers will also be able to conduct the test for you. In many municipalities, you’ll need your professional on-site to dig and fill the holes with water, as well as a representative from your local building department or health department. That representative is the individual who will determine whether your test passes or fails.
