"I would recommend SAR Construction & Landscaping to anyone who needed these services. They got their work done quickly & followed up on their drywall repair. They also repaired a few other things for me that was not asked in our initial request. I was very grateful."

"Terrific company. Came in with a significantly lower bid than another highly recommended company. They had done other fences on our street so I decided to go with them. I made a few changes after getting the estimate, including changing the fence line along the back on the morning of installation, and they were very accommodating and made the changes without charging any more. Steve showed up with a crew of 5 on a Saturday morning and put up the 300' wooden fence in one day. They cleaned up after themselves completely. I couldn't recommend them more highly. If you need a fence, you owe it to yourself to get an estimate from these guys."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

Concrete is one of the easiest, most cost-efficient, and most effective ways to stabilize a fence post. To stabilize a fence post with concrete, you’ll dig a hole around the post in question and fill it up with concrete—easy as that. Concrete lasts about 50 years on average, so it’s a long-term solution.

The best type of temporary fencing depends on its intended purpose. For example, if you need it for added security, to ensure the safety of children and animals, or to keep pests out of a garden, the ideal material will differ. For simply warning people away from a construction project, plastic orange fencing may be sufficient. Barricade fencing is a good choice for blocking off small areas. If you need to protect an area from trespassing, theft, or vandalism, more robust security fencing is necessary. Once you understand the primary function, you can select the most durable and cost-effective material for your specific project and yard size.

A setback is an area of space between your fence and the property line, meaning you build a fence a few inches before your neighbor’s property begins. You can build your fence on a setback—some communities recommend this—but this means a sliver of your property will be on your neighbor’s side of your fence.

The lifespan of a picket fence largely depends on its material. Wooden picket fences typically last 10 to 15 years with regular maintenance, while vinyl and composite picket fences can last 20 to 30 years or more due to their resistance to weather, rot, and pests. Metal picket fences often exceed 30 years, especially when properly coated to prevent rust or corrosion.

A fence gate can sag for several reasons. The issue often stems from the hardware, such as damaged or bent hinges, or loose screws that can no longer support the gate's weight. The gate frame itself might also have come out of square due to failing supports. Alternatively, the problem may not be the gate but the supporting fence post, which could be leaning or out of place. In many cases, fixing a sagging gate is as simple as tightening the hinge screws or upgrading to more robust hinges.
