"I cannot say enough good things about Mr. Handyman. I had a fantastic experience with the technician, Teddy, who came out to tackle a list of projects for me. In just a few hours, he installed a new garbage disposal, adjusted my closet doors that were not properly closing, mounted shelves and a new curtain rod, and fixed my toilet that needed a new flush kit, and sealed various areas around my second bathroom with caulk. He worked efficiently and with an incredible amount of attention to detail. I didn’t even have to clean up a thing! He was friendly, professional, and communicative throughout the entire process. I highly recommend their services and will definitely use them again!"

"B.C.G. BUILDING SOLUTIONS did a great job on several project’s. They arrived on time and left the work area clean each evening at the end of the day. They repaired some dry wall areas where wallpaper had been removed and screened in my porch."

"What I like about working with James was he stayed in constant contact with me through the whole project. He repaired a hole left in my bathroom ceiling by the AC installer. Fixed a leaky pipe pipe under the upstairs toilet via the downstairs ceiling. Redid my Powder Room ceiling by installing a new ceiling. I like this guy he was very responsible cleaned up after himself and was very effective cost wise. I'll use him again. Thanks James."

"Good experience with JES. I had work done by 2 teams. Bryan R. and Kai L. did an excellent job with repairing my foundation by injecting polyurethane foam to support where it's been undercut by water. Rafael G. and his team (Juan S. and Alejandro L.) did a great job using carbon fiber to support basement wall which was starting to buckle from excess exterior water."

"Kyle and his team did a great job with the work. The estimate was completed promptly and the work was started the next week. The retaining wall and patio look excellent. Kyle and the team kept me up to date with each part of the project."

"Jerome and his team were amazing and got our job done in the time estimated. They had to repair a concrete floor in a difficult location that required removing the broken concrete (reinforced with brick!) by hand and up a steep flight of stairs. They also had to repair a brick staircase and hand-ground out each mortar joint. Their work was thoughtfully done and impeccable. I canâ t recommend them highly enough."

"I needed a ceiling patch. Install 2 new air vents and replace ballast, replace bubs in ceiling kitchen light (large ceiling light), replace bulb in ceiling fan and replace bulb in laundry light. Olvin Ramirez did it all and beautifully. He is kind, respectful, knowledgeable and very hardworking! I’ve never seen anyone who works as quickly and accurately as Olvin does. He was without a doubt the best handyman I have ever had the pleasure to work with and would greatly appreciate and welcome him into my home again for future projects."

Customers say: Terrific value

"Tim did a phenomenal job power washing all the exterior surfaces of our home. He had knowledge about the very specific process for cleaning our stucco like surface and went over his work to make sure it met a very high standard. We’ve already made plans to have him do some additional work. Also, he was very well priced."

Wall Repair questions, answered by experts

Most retaining wall installations can be finished in one to three weeks, but the timeline varies based on factors like wall size and material. The local climate and major weather events, such as storms or flooding, can also extend the project's timeline, as can any holds ups in the permitting process.

They prevent soil erosion, add flat space, and enhance property aesthetics.

Railroad ties can be good for retaining walls, but it depends on the area. They have a desirable rustic look and are durable. The problem is they’re treated with creosote, a preservative the EPA says poses a risk to humans and wildlife. Over time, the preservative seeps out of the wood and into the ground. Many areas have banned the use of creosote-treated wood on residential properties. If your area does allow it, never use railroad ties near an edible garden or drinking water source. Instead, use wood that’s treated with an EPA-approved preservative or a wood-alternative composite material.

Each design is different, so we can’t say definitively if you’ll need a dedicated drainage system in place for a two-foot retaining wall. However, you can likely skip the drainage, as this project is typically served for walls that are 4 feet tall or more. Even with a relatively low wall, consider drainage if you are building on top of clay or poor-draining soil types or if there are buried water sources nearby, like a well used for other outdoor garden projects.

If you don’t backfill a retaining wall—either at all or adequately enough—the wall won’t drain well, and water will be able to pass through it. Poor drainage will lead to a warped wall or a buildup of hydrostatic pressure, which can eventually collapse your retaining wall. If you have particularly sloped land, consult a structural engineer to ensure your hardscaping is adding value to your home.
