Customers say: True professional

"The company owner (Lal) arrived within the time range original specified to clear (snake) a clogged kitchen sink drain. He cleaned up the cabinetry from any grime extracted from piping, and answered a few general questions of mine regarding plumbing (I discovered the drain clog while trying to replace an old (and clogged) garbage disposal with regular PVC piping), as I thought the blog was only in the disposal unit. Lal called at 7AM the day after I placed the HomeAdvisor request and accepted his request, which I did the evening before sometime around 9-10 PM. This was perfect, as am an early riser. For reference, Lal charged $250 for cleaning the drain. For my last clogged drain (bathroom tub), Hughes Mechanical charged me $275 to snake it. Len the Plumber quoted me $600-something for snaking the tub drain. Lal says he worked for Len the Plumber and Roto-Rooter in the past, showing me a $600-something charge for snaking from a Roto-Rooter price booklet (The Len the Plumber rep for the tub clog had a similar booklet which he used to explain his price when I balked). Lal advised me to pay him to replace the older garbage disposal with a new disposal rather than pipe as I had originally intended. He quoted me $550 to install a 1/2 Horsepower Badger 500 Continuous Feed Disposer, and when I balked, offered to reduce to $450. I declined and just completed the pipe installation myself."

"Sterling was the best!!! He came on short notice and during the middle of a snow storm. He even shoveled our driveway so he could service us. He fixed our problem and then tripled checked to make sure everything ran smoothly. He also fixed our garbage disposal which was a bonus as that was a separate issue. He was professional courteous and very patient with us explaining every single detail of the job he had to perform. I would highly recommend him for services and would definately use him again in the future. Sterling was a GOD send In helping us get our draining problem fixedð"

"He was a little late, but it was Christmas eve and he kept in constant contact with me about his ETA. He installed a SMART electric water heater for me and the install went wonderfully. He was in and out in about 2-3 hours."

"It went perfect. I had a kitchen sink clog. After trying to clear it for 2 days gave up and decided to call a plumber. Mr. Rema was fast, courteous, knowledgeable, and professional. I put in my request and I got a call immediately. He was at my house within 30 minutes. He did a thorough inspection, asked me about the history of the problem, and offered a very very reasonable price quote. I accepted his quote and Mr. Rema did the work on the spot. I will use him again. Interesting part of the story is that Mr. Rema installed our garbage disposal about four years ago when he worked with another company. He was fantastic then (the disposal works perfectly) and he is fantastic now. I am glad we reconnected and I will use him for future pluming repairs."

"Just before midnight on Father's Day Eve, our well pump stopped working. On the morning of Father's Day, we called R&G, having had previous experience with them a few months before. We had a pending quote from R&G for a well pump replacement that we had not gotten around to installing. The wife of the owner graciously answered the phone, and took down all of our information during a very pleasant phone conversion. She promised to get back to us. We expected a day or two wait to get the problem resolved, and began making plans to accommodate that possibility. Around the time that we wondered when we would be getting a call back -2:00 in the afternoon - 2 pleasant well technicians from R&G showed up at our door, apologizing for the delay, as we were their 3rd out of water call of the day. They quickly diagnosed the problem as a sheared connector, not a well pump failure - an honest assessment that could have easily been characterized to us as a well pump failure. We chose to have the pump replaced, as it was 20 years old, and changing it was already on our radar. The pump was pulled up in short order, and within a few hours, we had running water again. We received a fair price for emergency service, and an honest assessment of our well problems on 2 different occasions. We highly recommend R&G."

Install Garbage Disposal questions, answered by experts

While unplugging your garbage disposal and plugging it back in may help, most units have an actual reset button, a bright red switch found on the underside of your unit. If your garbage disposal needs resetting, you may notice this button sticking out about a quarter of an inch from the surface of the unit, with which it’s usually flush. Simply depress this reset button to reset the unit, and then test to ensure it’s working about 10 minutes later.

You may be able to install a garbage disposal on your own, especially if you're handy or have some experience with plumbing. However, if you have any concerns or want to make absolutely sure that the connections are installed correctly, you may be better off hiring a local garbage disposal installer to do the job.

Soil is just one of the items you shouldn't put down a garbage disposal. Garbage disposals are only meant for soft, non-fibrous foods. Large amounts of topsoil, dirt, or rocks will damage the blades of your garbage disposal or clog the pipes. If a small amount of dirt goes down the drain as you repot a plant, you shouldn't have to worry, but never dump a whole pot of soil in the sink for fast disposal.

Never put glass in the garbage disposal. It can damage your disposal or eject shards of glass out of the disposal and cause injury. If you get broken glass in your garbage disposal, turn it off and cut the power from the breaker, use a tool like pliers or tongs to remove the glass, and use a wet-dry vacuum to remove the remaining glass pieces. If you can’t access the disposal safely, call a garbage disposal repair pro.

These appliances certainly increase the number of things allowed down the drain, but they’re not foolproof. There are several items you shouldn’t put in your garbage disposal, according to manufacturers and technicians. Don’t put coffee grounds down the drain. The same goes for eggshells, potato peels, hard foods, onion skins, and any dry, expandable food. Most importantly, never put grease or oils down the drain.
