"We are very happy with the quality of their work. Over 5 days (plus a cleanup day), they completely pulled my front steps apart and put them back together. Many of the stones in my steps were cracked or crumbling, so they brought a big pile of large slabs. They had a rock saw, and they were able to cut the slabs to fit like jigsaw puzzles on each step. They used concrete to anchor the slabs and cement to fill between them. The guys who did all this were punctual and easygoing. The last day a couple of them came back to clean up and fix any imperfections. The only thing they asked of us was a power source; I left an electrical extension on the porch plugged to an inside jack. We would certainly hire them for any other projects in their line."

Concrete Cutting questions, answered by experts

The average cost for a welding project is about $300, with typical costs ranging from $125 to $490. However, prices can be as low as $125 for very small jobs or exceed $1,200 for large or complex projects. Welders typically charge an hourly rate between $65 and $150, depending on their experience, and many charge a minimum fee to cover overhead and travel expenses. The total cost is influenced by several factors, including labor, the cost of materials like metal rods and shielding gas, the type of metal being welded, the project's size and complexity, and your geographic location. For a precise quote, it's best to ask a local welder for an estimate based on your specific project.

Yes, you can use a saw to cut metal pipes. The best saw to use is a reciprocating saw, but even a fine-tooth hacksaw can get the job done. No matter which saw you use to cut metal pipes, wear protective gear, like work gloves, safety goggles, and ear plugs. Apply a firm, steady pressure to the tool, and always ensure the pipes are secured so they don't move while you make the cuts.

The cost to weld aluminum averages about $14 to $22 per pound. The type of metal factors into the overall cost of any welding project due to the cost of the materials and the expertise required to work with it. Some of the most common metals used by welders include:

  • Magnesium alloy: $7–$16 per pound

  • Low-carbon steel: $11–$12 per pound

  • Stainless steel: $13–$15 per pound

  • Copper/brass: $24–$29 per pound

  • Cast iron: $38–$79 per pound

  • Titanium: $60–$85 per pound

Professional metal fabricators typically charge around $70 per hour, but the total cost of your project will depend on several factors. The largest cost drivers are the size, complexity, and design of the project, as well as the price and type of metal used. A good way to estimate the total cost is to multiply the cost of raw materials by four; typically, one-quarter of the total goes toward materials and three-quarters toward labor. Your geographic location can also influence costs, as labor and material prices vary by region.

Sawing your hot tub into more manageable chunks so it can be lifted easily into a truck takes several hours. Generally, 2.5 hours for smaller hot tubs and around 4 hours for larger ones with the help of one to two people. If money isn't a concern and you want to skip the physical labor, you can hire a pro to get the job done.
