"Very courteous and professional staff at Home Genius. Was very reliable company. However the time frame of the install did fluctuate a bit. I’m glad to say I chose this company looking forward to getting more additional work with them."

"Carlos and his crew did outstanding work in installing a new ceiling in our living and dining rooms and in painting those rooms and our kitchen cabinets. We are absolutely delighted with the results! They were very punctual. Carlos explained the steps needed to complete the jobs. He and his crew took great care of our furnishings and left the rooms in spotless condition. His prices seemed more than fair. He and his crew were pleasant and friendly. It was a pleasure having them in our home! We will not hesitate to hire them again should the need arise. We highly recommend them! Bill and Pat Carpenter"

"We are writing to share the great experience we had with LeonPro who we hired to build an enclosed deck at our house in Rockville. They handled all aspects of the project, including collaborating on the design, obtaining a permit, acquiring the materials, demolishing our old deck, and building the new one. We were impressed by how easy it was to communicate with Otari (the owner) and the construction crew. They were great at addressing our concerns and were flexible with the changes we wanted to make during construction. The construction crew were punctual (they even showed up when it snowed!), hard-working (worked from the moment they arrived until it got dark), communicative (we had the foreman's cell phone number and he would call/text whenever there was an issue), and well-informed (they made recommendations for additional features and were receptive to our questions/comments). They also cleaned up everyday before leaving for the day and kept the area looking neat. The quality of their work is impeccable and we truly feel that no shortcuts were made in completing the work. We are thrilled with the end result and would whole-heartedly recommend Deck Solder/LeonPro to anyone looking for a home-improvement contractor. We plan to use them in the near future to build a patio to complement the new deck."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

No rules state how much of a load-bearing wall can be removed. Rather, you need to adequately support any area that is removed. Support should always be added to as much wall area is being removed. Failing to support the area properly will result in structural damage.

Your local building code will list all the framing requirements for whatever type of structure you're building. Most exterior walls require spacing of 16 inches on-center, while many non-load-bearing interior walls only require 24 inches of spacing. However, there are also varying requirements depending on your construction material, so checking your municipality's rules is essential.

When hanging a door frame, it’s recommended that you use screws, not nails. Screws are more secure, easier to tighten, and easier to remove if you need to adjust the frame. On average, the cost to replace a door frame is about $400, but you can save on labor costs if you’re confident in your ability to DIY the project.

Framing a basement takes three to five days, on average, when completed by a professional, though it may take longer for a larger space. Keep in mind this doesn’t include the time to complete the design, obtain permits, and install the drywall on the framing. On average, fully finishing a basement takes an average of 45 days.

Homeowners can increase the usefulness of their garage space in other ways, and one option is to extend the length of the garage by making it deeper. The process is similar to traditional garage extensions, but the end product is a garage with a different layout rather than additional parking spaces.
