"MC Interiors was great! They walked us through the fabric selection process, and told us exactly how and when the effort would be completed. Everything went as planned and the job was done several days earlier than expected. So we had our sofa back in time for the holidays, and the men who delivered it to us were very conscientious and pleasant to deal with."

"Very well. We have used Rich of My Carpet Cleaning for several years. This time we needed him to clean the carpets after two of our dogs were sick for a few months. Needless to say they left us many presents including several surprises that Rich was able to detect with his Natick carpet light, The work went very well. Rich is a consummate professional and very friendly. He showed up on time as scheduled. He was looking forward to rewarding our pups with special treats but we unfortunately had to put them down. He always asks about our children and grandchildren. The carpets and chairs looked and smelled as if they were brand new after Rich finished. I would recommend him very highly for your carpet and upholstery cleaning needs."

Upholstering questions, answered by experts

Ongoing maintenance of your leather furniture is the only way to prevent it from peeling and cracking. Real leather will peel and crack as it dries out. Leather conditioners are a great way to protect your leather furniture from drying out, and you’ll need to apply it about twice each year. It’s also a good idea to keep abrasive materials away from your leather to prevent cracking and peeling, including belt buckles, shoes, and multi-surface cleaners, especially those that contain alcohol.

Reupholstering an old or antique chair can be worthwhile if the frame is still sturdy and the piece has sentimental or monetary value. Reupholstery often costs less than buying a high-quality new chair, and you can customize the look. However, extensive repairs or rare fabrics may increase the total cost.

The best way to test the quality of a leather couch is to put your hands on it. If the upholstery is soft and warm, that’s a good indication that the quality is higher. It should also smell like traditional leather. If it smells like chemicals, you’re probably dealing with low-grade leather.

Upholstery reduces waste sent to landfills, limits resource consumption, and supports sustainable living practices, provided fabrics meet standards.

It is generally worth repairing leather furniture rather than replacing it, as it is typically more affordable and the material tends to retain its value. A typical repair averages around $250, which is significantly less than the thousands of dollars a replacement could cost. Even a full reupholstering, which can cost up to $4,000, may still be more economical than buying new. With proper care, repaired leather furniture can last for many years, making the investment worthwhile. However, if the underlying structure or frame of the furniture is damaged or malfunctioning, replacement might be a better option. The quality of the leather and the furniture piece are also important factors. For a definitive answer, it is best to consult a leather repair professional to assess your specific situation.
