"I hired Wynter services previously for deck repair & staining so when I needed my gutter cleaned and potentially gutter guards I reached out to them. They were quick to respond and scheduled with me right away. I really appreciate that about this company. I did get the gutter guards installed, sealing and cleaned thoroughly. Thankful to find a great company like this one."

"Contractor demonstrated thoroughness in planning and executing repair project on gutter and roof of our principal residence, and did so on a most timely and highly reliable basis. As work progressed, undertook additional repairs that had not been initially observed, at own time and materials expense to stay within original budgeted cost under the contract. Will certainly plan to resort to contractor’s services for additional work in future."

"Gutter cleaning, end unit, small townhouse. They came out for an estimate ready to work, so I just gave them the go-ahead since the phone quote was very reasonable. They did not sweep up the debris on my deck though. I guess they didn't want to go on the deck, but they could have asked me if I wanted it swept. I had to clean up after them, but it wasn't a big deal. The gutters are flowing freely, just in time for Hurricane Ida."

"I'd have liked some confirmation (pictures perhaps) of the cleaned gutters, but the person who came couldn't have provided them even if he wanted to because he never get up there to view them. Perhaps it's no news to others, but I was surprised that no ladders were used, as with others I've had come to clean the gutters."

Gutter Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Yes, it is okay to knock down icicles yourself. Just make sure to take the proper safety precautions. If you’re not comfortable doing it yourself, contact a roofing professional.

Frequently, when water flows over gutters, it indicates a potential clog, necessitating cleaning. For instance, if a twig becomes lodged in the downspout, it can lead to a traffic jam, causing more leaves and sticks to accumulate. Another potential issue is an incorrect pitch, as gutters should channel water toward the downspout. If you observe water overflowing the end cap or leaking through it, it suggests that your gutters are improperly tilted.

Usually 1-2 hours, depending on gutter length and condition.

Walking on the roof to clean gutters is unsafe and not recommended due to significant safety risks. It is especially dangerous on steep or slippery roofs, or if the roof is wet or covered in leaves, which increases the chance of a fall. In addition to personal injury, walking on the roof can damage shingles, potentially leading to water leaks. Instead of walking on the roof, use a sturdy ladder positioned on a stable surface to access the gutters. Be aware that using a ladder also carries risks, as it can be difficult to maintain balance while performing the work. You can also use ground-based cleaning tools. For safety reasons and to prevent damage to your roof, hiring a professional to clean your gutters is the best and safest option.

The best times of year to clean your gutters are typically in the spring and fall. Cleaning in the fall is crucial for removing leaves and debris that have accumulated, which helps prevent clogs. A spring cleaning ensures your gutters are clear and prepared for seasonal rainfall.

As a general guideline, experts recommend cleaning your gutters at least twice a year. However, the optimal frequency depends on several factors, such as local weather patterns, the type of gutters you have, and the number of trees on your property. If your home is surrounded by many large trees or pine trees, you may need to clean your gutters as often as every three to four months. If you have few or no trees nearby, twice a year is likely sufficient. In some cases, you may need to clean them a couple of times during the fall and spring to keep them clear and allow water to flow freely.
