J. W. Contractors Inc. was created in 1988. It is locally ran business, offering services in Harford, Baltimore, Howard and Cecil County. We are in the business of custom interior trim, built-ins and custom cabinetry. The business is family owned and operated. The owner, David Wunder, has over 25 years experience in fine wood working. They strive to keep their repeat and new customers happy. The job is never complete until every party is happy. All projects are completed with the highest attention to detail, and suited to the customer's needs. We only use high end wood and accessories. We look forward to having your business

"J.W. Contractors came out for an estimate and quoted me a pretty good price on a new rear door for my basement. They reviewed the door options in detail and came with catalogs to show the exact door options. Initially the estimated that the project would take 5-6 weeks. However the work was completed within 3 weeks from the time I contracted them to do the work. The did a very professional job in replacing an old wooden basement door and frame."

Cabinet Making questions, answered by experts

Kitchen base cabinets are the cabinets that sit on the floor in your kitchen—and yes, you can stack base cabinets. Usually, homeowners stack kitchen base cabinets when building a pantry. Base cabinets come in various styles, with doors, drawers, and glass fronts—so your options for creating stacked base cabinets are endless.

Yes, likely. Most kitchen cabinets are plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF). Plywood is an engineered wood made by layering, pressing, and bonding thin sheets of wood veneer together. MDF is an engineered wood made by combining wood fibers with resin and wax. Both are cheaper than solid wood, but advances in the durability of MDF make it a closer alternative to the real thing.

There should be at least 30 inches of space between the top of the stove, whether gas or electric, and the bottom of any upper cabinets. This typically provides enough clearance to prevent heat damage and meet most building code requirements. If you’re installing a range hood, follow the manufacturer’s guidelines. It may require even more space.

You can use either handles or knobs on upper cabinets—go with what you like best. Pulls can sometimes make hard-to-reach upper cabinets easier to open, which is why it’s common to see kitchens that have handles on upper cabinets and knobs on drawers and base cabinets. But it’s also common to use knobs on doors and pulls on drawers. Let your aesthetics, budget, and practical considerations about how you use your cabinets dictate your decision.

To remove kitchen cabinets, you’ll need a drill, putty knife, utility knife, hammer, and pry bar. A saw may also be necessary to cut materials into smaller pieces. Wear work gloves and safety glasses for protection, and have a helper handy to support heavy cabinets as you remove them.
