"No one expects or wants to deal with asbestos removal but after removing old carpet in an old home we unexpectedly found tiles that tested positive for asbestos. Compliance Construction went above and beyond to handle this remediation even when it took much longer than they originally anticipated. James Lang in particular was incredibly responsive to our needs. I hope that I never need asbestos remediation again but if I do I will know who to call."

"I love my basement now! They removed all of the asbestos flooring, adhesive etc. and installed my new floor in 2 days. The employees were very respectful and worked efficiently. They had said 3 days but they hustled and did it in 2."

"Erik and his professional team replied to my request for services on Angi promptly. Erick came to provide an estimate the very next day. On the day of the work, the entire team arrived on time and immediately prepared the job site. The area was isolated before any asbestos removal started. Throughout the day, all work was prefessionaly done. An independent inspector arrived several hours later when the asbestos abatement was complete, and gave his approval of a successful job. Erik and his team were neat, friendly, skilled, and it was actually enjoyable to observe their teamwork and efficiency. The completed site was left perfectly clean. I give Erik and ACS 10 out of 5 stars."

"Danny was great!!! We are doing a house refi and the appraiser noted a mold like substance in the basement bathroom. I contacted Danny and e answered his phone whenever I called, and was quick to come out to test our mold. In the beginning, he explained that he only tests, does not do remediation and why it isn't good to have a company that does both together. He made this process easy to digest and feel like I wasn't going to go down a road that was an expensive scam. He thoroughly explained the test process, and even told me that it might be just an allergen, which in fact it turned out to be. He sent me a thorough report, and then let me know that the mortgage company could call him directly if they needed any clarification or didn't understand the report."

"This company was on the list of companies registered with Montgomery County. After the initial phone call, I was able to setup an appointment to coincide with the Abatement company that removed the tiles. All went very smooth and Maxximus representative was present throughout the day and explained all that he was doing. Very satisfied customer."

"We received an asbestos inspection/test for our old plaster walls and ceiling areas. The turn around times were fantastic - inspector was in our area and able to fit us in the same day I called. Sample results and accompanying lab report were emailed within 36 hours. All samples were analyzed by a local lab accredited under the NIST NVLAP Asbestos Fiber Analysis Lab Accreditation Program, so I felt comfortable trusting the results. The inspector seemed very knowledgeable and helped walk us through any areas that could be of concern. Thankfully all samples were negative, but the modest inspection and sampling fees were well worth the piece of mind during our remodel. In short, I highly recommend this company for asbestos testing/inspections."

Asbestos Removal questions, answered by experts

In the event of suspected or confirmed asbestos contamination on the body, it is imperative to take immediate measures to reduce health risks. To avoid further exposure, carefully remove contaminated clothing and shower thoroughly to remove any asbestos fibers. Seek prompt medical attention, and inform your healthcare professional about your suspected asbestos exposure. Since asbestos-related health issues can take years to surface, regular medical check-ups are advised for anyone with a history of exposure.

Typically, homeowners insurance does not cover asbestos removal or abatement. Most policies exclude coverage for pollutants, contaminants, and hazardous materials, which includes asbestos. Because asbestos is often considered a pre-existing condition in older homes, its removal is usually viewed as a maintenance expense rather than an insurable loss. However, there is a key exception: if asbestos-containing materials are discovered or disturbed due to a covered event, such as a fire or storm, your policy may cover the abatement as part of the necessary repairs. For example, if a storm damages your roof and an insurance adjuster discovers asbestos while inspecting the damage, the policy might pay for the removal cost. If removal is not covered and is outside your budget, you might consider encapsulating the asbestos. The viability of this option depends on the condition of the contaminated materials. It is recommended to speak with an asbestos abatement specialist to understand your options.

Although the use of asbestos has declined since the 1980s, it remains in several different types of building construction materials for insulation and as a fire retardant. Typically, asbestos can be found in materials such as ceiling and floor tiles, heat-resistant fabrics and coatings, and roof shingles. You may also find asbestos in textured paint and patching compounds.

If you think you’ve touched asbestos, do not put on a mask. This is important because you may take the asbestos fibers on your hands on trap them in the mask. Make your way to a sink and wash your hands thoroughly. Remove any clothes and seal them in a bag, then take a shower. Call your doctor and let them know you’ve been exposed to asbestos, and make sure you see them as soon as possible. The reason you keep the clothes is in case anyone wants to confirm the presence of asbestos.

Asbestos-containing materials, like duct wrap, should be encapsulated using a sealant specifically formulated for asbestos. These sealants work to bind with asbestos fibers and help further neutralize them as a health risk. Whenever you’re working near asbestos-containing materials, be sure to keep safety as a top priority and wear a P-100-rated respirator as well as protective clothing.
