"At first I was extremely apprehensive about buying all new windows for my home from one vendor all at once. Because, I was completely burned in the past from a previous contractor and they installed a few of my windows about 3 years ago and didn’t complete the job, it was a horrible experience and left a very negative feeling regarding purchasing windows from anyone in the future with the fear of being taken advantage of again. However, after analyzing and getting great descriptions of the windows and the installation process, I found it worth taking the chance and in my best interest to have ARHT Home Solutions do the work for me. His workforce was very professional and I was very satisfied with my new windows. I have decided also to use ARHT to install a new front door and storm door after the completion of the new windows that were installed. They showed up on time and was very patient with me, the work ethic was great through the entire process and am completely satisfied."

"I very much recommend this contractor! Answers fast, gives extremely fair prices, gives fast appointments AND the show up on time! They are very polite and nice. They also clean up the station after they’re done! I find them reliable, quality work and fairly priced. They also work as long as they need to. For our house they: Fixed the window frames outside because the mortar was broken or eroded and when it stormed outside, it rained inside our house. They changed rotten wood, painted it, cemented places in the brick wall that needed it, put mortar/caulk and sealed 4 windows from the outside. The other project was putting bifold closet doors which included cutting them to size, installing the hardware, and painting them. This was the first time I’ve had to hire someone to fix things around the house that I couldn’t, and I was really nervous. I’m grateful I found Chapin Handyman LLC through Angie’s list! Oh! And they are insured and bonded, too!"

"Excellent work. The person who assisted us was gruff and no-nonsense, but professional. He asked that we send a photo of the window, which we did. He then came out and measured the window. He came back a couple of days later, and completed the work. The window looks fantastic, and we are very pleased with his work."

"From the quote to the completion of the installation, we were very happy that we chose Unicorp. We did a full (28 windows) window replacement and 1 exterior and storm door replacement. The windows are the Prodigy by Uncorp windows and they are beautiful and well-made, and the price was more than competitive with the other quotes we received. Our house is 100 years old and still had the original windows, so it was a very challenging and lengthy installation, but their installer did an excellent and very thorough job. We plan on using Unicorp again in the future when we replace our remaining exterior doors."

"We got a number of bids from a variety of contractors. I'm glad we selected Premier. We fully replaced a couple of windows and just replaced the glass on a number of others. They do both things really well. The work crews are courteous, professional, and do high-quality work. They also left the house really clean, which we appreciate."

"If you need a door repaired, hire Dexter. He was absolutely professional from start to finish, incredibly humble, and his pricing was more than fair. He diagnosed the issue quickly and fixed it right the first time without trying to upsell me on anything unnecessary. Honest, high-quality work is hard to come by—I will definitely be calling him again if I need anything else."

"This company is great! They hauled away our old exterior and storm doors and installed the new doors we ordered through their company. Best contractor I've hired in quite some time. From the very beginning, the experience was seamless, efficient and every timeframe met. The work was superb and very detailed. Will hire again when we replace windows"

Window Door Contractors FAQs, answered by experts

If you’re not an experienced DIYer, consider hiring a local patio repair contractor to rescreen your porch or sunroom. Unless you’re only repairing a small rip or hole, this project is not an easy job. A professional can also make recommendations for materials that will work best for your porch.

To ensure the longevity and smooth functioning of new windows, regular maintenance is essential. This includes cleaning the glass and frames, inspecting seals for leaks or damage, and reapplying caulking as needed. It is also important to lubricate all moving parts and operating mechanisms to ensure they continue to operate smoothly.

Window screen repair costs an average of $310, with a typical range of $100 to $480. The final price depends on several factors, including the window size, accessibility, screen type, whether the frame needs replacement, and especially the screen material.

The cost of window screen materials varies widely based on durability and features:

  • Fiberglass: $35–$200

  • Aluminum: $50–$300

  • Copper: $90–$850

  • Stainless Steel: $45–$400

  • Brass: $100–$900

  • Solar: $55–$850

  • Security: $100–$1,000

  • Vinyl: $25–$120

Costs also differ by screen type. For instance, a prefabricated screen might cost only $40, moveable screens typically run $25 to $75, and retractable screens range from $300 to $900. To save money, you can choose more affordable materials like vinyl or fiberglass, opt to rescreen instead of replacing the entire frame, and have multiple screens repaired at once to reduce labor costs.

It is generally recommended to remove window screens for the winter, especially in climates with heavy snow, freezing rain, or frigid temperatures. Removing them helps prevent damage to the screen mesh and frames that can be caused by ice and moisture buildup between the screen and the window. Taking out the screens also allows more natural light and warmth into your home during shorter winter days and makes it easier to clean your windows thoroughly. In warmer climates where harsh weather is not a concern, the decision is more about personal preference; some homeowners prefer the clearer view, while others leave them in for convenience.

Most windows last for 15 to 30 years, depending on the frame material and the glass quality, but most will require repairs during that time. Windows gradually lose efficiency, so it’s usually best to have a window repair technician inspect and service your windows every five to 10 years. You should also repair your windows if you experience the following:

  • Leaks

  • Drafts

  • Difficulty opening or closing

  • Sudden increases in heating and cooling bills

  • Outdoor noise becomes more audible

  • Signs of physical damage
