He is thorough to a T exploring the home from basement to chimney top. I would hire him for every home I look to buy in my future. Very confident and happy with his work."

For more than 60 years, ’58 Foundations & Waterproofing has provided the highest-quality basement waterproofing, crawlspace encapsulation, radon mitigation, mold removal and foundation repair solutions for homes and commercial properties. We lead with a promise of Trusted Five-Star Service, which means the customer experience is at the center of everything we do. Since 1958, we have been steadfast in keeping this promise and in upholding the values on which '58 Foundations was built: trust, teamwork, integrity, respect and communication. This comes across in all that we do: from the initial call to job completion, our customers are met with a knowledgeable, caring, and professional staff prepared to offer a five-star experience that is unmatched in the home repair industry.

"If you’re considering 58 Foundations, do yourself a favor and stop right now. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this company to anyone—let alone friends or family. Their complete disregard for accountability is nothing short of infuriating. At first, things appeared to go smoothly. The workers were professional, and the workmanship seemed decent. But the illusion of competence quickly disintegrated when it came time for the building inspection. The city inspector requires a letter from the project engineer verifying that the work is safe, sound, and compliant with code. 58 Foundations flat-out refuses to provide this basic validation of their work. Why won’t they stand behind their project? Are they hiding shoddy, substandard work? As a homeowner, I’m now saddled with the mess of an open permit and no resolution in sight. This is unacceptable. If a company won’t back their work with a simple letter, what does that say about their integrity—or lack thereof? Didn't expect this kind of run around from a well established professional firm, save yourself the frustration and inevitable regret. Choose a company that honors their commitments and respects their customers. Once upon a time, 58 Foundations may have been reputable, but their crumbling standards are now painfully obvious. Don’t let their negligence become your problem."

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

If high radon levels are detected, steps include sealing entry points, installing a mitigation system, and retesting the air regularly to ensure reduced levels.

You can buy DIY radon test kits from a home improvement store and conduct radon testing, but these tests are often inaccurate. No matter the result, you should supplement DIY testing with professional radon detection and analysis. DIYers only have access to passive radon tests, which aren’t as reliable as active tests that professionals use. Plus, it’s very easy for DIYers to make mistakes during testing, leading to inaccurate results. If you’re moving into a new home, have concerns about radon, or are due for an updated test, hire a professional.

Keeping radon from getting into your home is much better than having to get rid of it once it's already indoors. While there may not be a way to fully prevent radon from getting into your home, there are things you can do to reduce the gas's ability to enter.

Sealing foundation cracks and openings can help keep the gas from seeping inside. Improving air flow, such as by opening windows, can also be helpful. If you're building your home from scratch, talk to your contractor about using radon-resistant construction to keep the gas out.

Mold, VOCs, radon, carbon monoxide, and particulate matter are typically measured.

A DIY kit can lessen the sting that comes with paying for a professional assessment, but these comprehensive tests are true lifesavers. Inspectors are more likely to catch all of the pollutants and hazards in your air. Plus, you’ll still need a professional to verify and act on your DIY test results.

Some kits don’t include tests for certain air pollutants or only detect their presence, but not their levels (i.e., mold spores). If you’re willing to shell out money for a DIY kit, it’s usually better to stretch your budget slightly higher for a more detailed assessment.
