Foundation, Basement or Crawlspace - Waterproofing / Encapsulation

The team was super awesome if I may say. Personable, communicative, quick and it should be noted from the laughs that I heard coming from the basement, genuinely happy people. While at work, a rarity. The pricing was very, very competitive and fair.

We are very pleased with the excellent results of the installation of the custom-built Grate Drain™ basement drainage system by Floodbusters. The entire team at Floodbusters is courteous, professional, and responsive. We had many concerns and apprehensions about this project because it had to be done in a finished basement area. Mark, who first surveyed the situation, carefully inspected the area and was able to determine the exact location and extent of the drainage and pump system required to limit any unnecessary demolition. He also took the time to answer our many questions and provided material specs and video so that I knew exactly what this project entailed. Craig was able to schedule our project within our timeframe of availability and stuck to it! Charles and Dwayne arrived as scheduled and worked steadily and efficiently. Even the boss came on site to give a hand hauling debris. The team took care to protect and clean surrounding surfaces as they worked. The project was completed on time as promised. We highly recommend Floodbusters for any of your basement waterproofing needs. Their responsiveness, timeliness, and attention to detail in workmanship will give you the confidence in a company that is reliable, trustworthy, and true to its mission in producing a high quality of service.

The service was excellent, as usual. I've used this company once in the past. I especially like Wanda who helps answer the phones for the company, she is very pleasant. Two technician's came out. They had to cut out drywall, and cut a 2x4 to access the crack. They then sealed the crack with two different types of materials. One was Teflon over top of the epoxy they used. They also went a step above and sealed the outside crack for me as well. This company is 10/10.

I've used Floodbusters twice in the last two years. The first time they came out and sealed a crack in my utility room to exposed concrete. The job was solid, but the sealant they used looked a bit sloppy. I called and the same week they came out and painted over it. Now it looks good! This was in 2019. This past February 2020 I had them come out again, this time they had to remove drywall to access where the crack was. Two different men came out then the first time. They did a pretty good job. All I need now is for my drywall to be replaced and another successful job will have been done and in the books. I really appreciate this company and highly recommend!

Having had considerable basement issues with water I utilized the services of FloodBuster's to assist in waterproofing and correcting my problem. With a major iron ore issue we we're finally able to install a system that allowed for cleanout and maintenance and prevent the continual flooding and water damage that I had experienced. While this was a challenging process and required a few corrections Floodbuster's worked with us along the way providing quality work at times below cost corrections to ensure that my waterproofing challenges were complete. I would recommend them especially in challenging situations.

Floodbusters did an excellent job sealing the water out of our basement. They installed a sump pump and drainage system which they check annually. We were very happy with their service. Employees were polite and knowledgable. We highly recommend them.

Floodbusters was great. We had a quick timeline needed and they met it. Willing to work with us on the project to get it done in time and prevent any more issues. They were efficient and respectful of the house. They kept it clean despite a very dirty job. Since the work was done the basement has been dry and no more flooding/issues.

For many years we had a damp and sometimes wet basement. Especially after heavy rains. After Flood Busters installed their system, very promptly and efficiently, the basement has been bone dry, inspite of the heavy rains we have had all across Harford County during the past year. There has not been a single damp or wet spot anywhere. JLow

Wow! After years of water seeping into our basement and 4 floods, I felt really defeated. My husband and I cringed every time it rained even a little. After our last flood, we called Floodbusters. They gave us a reasonable estimate, which was cheaper than the other 2 estimates we got. In fact, there were even a couple of businesses that didn't even call us back. They installed a second sump pump and a trench drain outside of our basement door. I will be honest--The 2 men who installed them did an amazing job, but they left it messy and unfinished and when my husband pointed it out, they insulted my husband. We immediately called the company and spoke to the owner. The owner was astonished and not happy at all. He sent someone out the next day who redid the cement finishing on the inside and outside, and he cleaned up the messy areas. He was EXTREMELY professional and apologetic as were the owners. Two weeks after the installation, Baltimore received torrential downpours and storms for days on end, and it continued for the next 10 days. Our basement was BONE DRY!!!!! We are so grateful to Floodbusters!!! My husband and I can now live normal lives in any weather with the piece of mind that we will never have water issues again!!! We HIGHLY recommend this company!

Things went well. We had a poor sales experience due to a previous salesperson that did not fully disclose the situation I would experience, however Floodbusters did make the situation right and warrantied the product to ensure that my experience moving forward was the best it could be given the complexity of my basement situation. They continue to work with me and believe me if you have any situation like I do in regards to Iron Ore and the devastation it delivers to your waterproofing system, this crew through my experience is the team now to hire.

To begin with, the estimator stated that I would be emailed an electronic copy of the complete estimate since the yellow carbon copy was faded and barely legible. Additionally, he said there would be a video/slides with the detail of exactly what would be done for my records. However, this was never provided to me. This is the first example of poor reliability from the company. I would also like to note that on the estimate, the estimator recorded all of my contact information including my cell and email and was directed to contact ME directly for all communications even though my architect had scheduled the estimate. Not ONCE was I called or emailed throughout this entire process. Second, the job was quoted to take 1.5-2 days max to complete. On day one, the contractors did not arrive until almost 10am. It was later explained that there was a personal emergency which caused the late arrival which could have been overlooked except that they left promptly at 3pm (and the next TWO days arrived at a similar late time). Given the very short work day on the first day of the project, I expressed extreme concern 3 separate times over ensuring the work was completed on time by conclusion of the second working day, I was provided grave assurances that it would be completed as originally quoted. On day two of the project, there was yet again a late arrival. By 9:30am when I called the scheduler, I was informed it would be another 1+ hour before they arrive because they had to pick up some items and were stuck in traffic. One would assume, if you left the job site at 3pm the day before and have a full day of work to complete on day two, you would acquire these items the afternoon/evening before. Continuing with day two, an additional two workers were brought in to help out in completing all of the activities. This was appreciated as there was no way the original two workers were going to be able to complete all activities as scheduled. At 3pm on day two it began to rain; it was stated that the rain was preventing the cement from sticking so they would need to come back the next day. However, there was still the rest of the drain to lay in one of the rooms, the sump pump and piping had not been installed nor the pipe out the back to drain from the sump pump which all were left to do in addition to laying the concrete. Since our hands were tied, further adjustments to our schedules were made to accommodate the additional time for completing the job. The foreman stated he would be there promptly at 8am however due to "traffic again" did not arrive until 9:45am. This right here shows the level of reliability as if one was stuck in traffic the day before at the same time, then one would assess they need to leave earlier to account/avoid the traffic, and if you are going to be late, you communicate with your customer to reset expectations as they have made arrangements around your schedule. As became my normal routine, I called the scheduler again to determine where the workers were. After my phone call on day 2 to the scheduler (Wanda), all further calls were sent to voicemail and never followed up on. After 2.5 hours more, the work was finally completed on day 3. So to recap, the original quote was for 1.5 to 2 days of labor. Day 1 was 10am-3pm (5hrs), Day 2 was 10:30am-3pm (4.5hrs with 4 people), and Day 3 9:45am- 12:15pm (2.5hrs) totaling 12 total hours of work. Yes this matches the original quote, however because the workers were unreliable in their time management, this took part of an additional day to which I had to take time off of work to ensure someone was there. Within 10 minutes after the job had completed, a phone call was received to my architect who set up the original estimate asking for the remaining payment. Funny how this part of the process they were extremely eager to communicate and followup on. I do feel the additional amount of time I had to be off work coupled with the unreliability of their company should have warranted some type of a credit in the final bill, however there wasn't. I would not recommend this company to anyone in the DC-MD-VA area unless you are willing to just "go with the flow" and not have them show up to work when scheduled.

I did not get a casing for the pump, to keep it sanitary and to keep the dirt from clogging up the pump. The drain tiles were alright, but the work with the pump was disgusting. Their work was not very professional, and I was not happy with their service.

We had a very negative experience with Floodbusters in 2014.  We met with Mark in June 2014 to obtain a quote to have an above ground tract system installed as well as a sumppump to re-route water away from the foundation of our home ? we signed a contract/gave deposit the same day.  We
were told that the job would take anywhere from 2-3 days to complete and work was scheduled to begin July 7, 2014.
Long story short?the completion date for this job was September 29, 2014.
We ran into so many issues with this company and learned that you definitely get what you pay for.
The quote we received was cheaper than the others and we paid for it ?
Just to list a few of the issues we experienced:
When trying to squeeze into a tight space to drill in the basement they hit a gas line. When I went downstairs to address the gas smell that had now infiltrated the entire upstairs they lied about it and stated they
didn?t do it. They turned the gas off and attempted to fix it with a water gasket?gas still leaking in home for hours. Finally late that evening, I had to call emergency hotline at midnight to come and address the leaking gas.  We hired our own plumber to come out and fix correctly to eliminate the danger in our home?Floodbusters covered the cost of
this repair.
The installed PVC pipes ?running the water from the sump pump to the outside of the home?leaked for days and sagged due to the amount of water in them, tract system leaked, the sump pump did not working and drain properly.
They mixed cement on the basement carpet, tracked oil on the carpet and when attempting to determine where the leaks were in the tract system, they ran a hose and ruined the carpet and padding in certain areas?soaking and then laying it back down?attempting to hide what they had done. The carpet is now ruined and needs to be replaced?the owner would only cover the cost to have it cleaned.
When bringing equipment and boards to the basement they scratched the ceiling tile
During the time of the quote we were told that Floodbusters would cut the finished basement wall s approximately 2-3 inches and slide the tract system up and under the wall to hide the plastic tract. During the 1st day on the job the finished basement walls had been cut too high approx. 5 inches and there was a 2-3 in gap between the tract system and the wall.  This is where the lying began?the mistake is unsightly and ruined the finished basement walls?not only do we now have to replace the carpet we now need ?at some point- to have new dry wall hung throughout. Floodbusters ?fixed? the wall that they had cut incorrect but installing a tract of 4x4?s?apparently this was extra work according to Floodbusters because they ?went above and beyond? to do this for us?please note my sarcasm.
They cut wood and board on top on my washing machine, dryer and deep freezer?leaving a filthy mess where I do laundry for my family?and left for the day --leaving it there for me to find and clean.
When getting ready to install the sump pump they had to jack hammer the basement floor foundation and drilled the hole for sump pump in the wrong spot
The hole for the PVC pipe to take the water from the sump pump to the outside of the home?a hole in the foundation wall?drilled the hole in the wrong spot
Removed washing machine drain pipe and did not replace it? went down to do a load of laundry after the 1st day they were there to find the washing machine had drained all over the floor?I received an apology
They originally thought they would need to remove the laundry sink to install some of the tract system and they removed the pipe to laundry sink and did not re-install it correctly -- the laundry sink was now leaking.  When confronted they were so
confused and couldn?t imagine they were responsible for this.
In order to get closer to the wall, they unplugged basement freezer and never plugged back in-lost hundreds of dollars of food
Consistent leaks in the tract system for weeks-they had to come out to our home over and over to repair
Hired to clean, disinfect and treat mold on walls ?when asked, they stated this work was completed but there was still a film on the walls and cob webs where they were supposed to have cleaned?no cleaning or treatment was done.  They stated they would do it again and it still wasn't done and no treatment was applied.
All in all, this was one of the worst experiences?not only did this nightmare go on for months, the owner and staff were unprofessional, raising their voices, threatening, disrespectful and lied to cover themselves. They caused more damage to my home then when we started. I?m hoping I can help prevent someone else from dealing with the hassle of working with this company and having to pay them for work well below the minimum standards. Please please rethink working with this company-save yourself!
Response from Floodbusters Inc
"There were problems that we had encountered during this job that didn't go towards our favor. At the end, we did a lot of extra work on the inside and outside to repair our errors at no cost. We paid them for the extra services we caused and reduced the price of the job. It was frustrating for scheduling where it took almost a month at one time to do the extra work. At the end of the job, we offered to come back and inspect the work so nothing is missed or done incorrectly."

The work they did was OK, if we had a small basement issue.  Unfortunately, we had a large issue.
However, there was really only one person doing 90% of the work.  The work he completed was satisfactory.  As for the other guys on the crew, they were either doing "go for" work or no work at all.  The one guy doing no work was supposedly doing "mold remediation."  He was just taking a sponge and wiping a wall.
The owner was knowledgeable, but not really hands on.  He would check on the work that the one guy did.
As I mentioned before, they didn't complete the job upon my request.
Response from Floodbusters Inc
"We are disappointed to only get a B rating from the homeowner. Homeowner was very happy when we left his property after 1st part of work was completed. We did have a new employee in training that was still learning. After the walls were taken down the cracks we found turned out to be more detrimental to the structure of the home than originally thought and homeowner wanted additional work to correct this, but at a future date. We had tried to contact Pat King but never heard anything back in regards to resuming planned additional work. In my professional opinion, if not repaired this will continue to deteriorate the structure of the home."
