"After completing everything and reflecting - would I use Smiley again (or would I recommend them)? Short answer: NO Long answer: Every project has its ups and downs and ours was no different. We had a major issue relatively early on and I thought that the way Smiley addressed it was reasonable. They verbally admitted to the issue and committed to rectifying it. And to some degree they did give some concessions. But my major mistake was not getting verbal commitments in writing. And there may not have been malice or dishonesty in the agreement, these projects are so long that each person's memory of a conversation will be different. But this wasn't the only reason for the poor review. They have major turnover, of staff and in the office and this lead to major project and bookkeeping issues. We had 5 different project managers and we would have to correct and correct things because of the turnover... Something similar seems to be going on with bookkeeping. And this is major. Bills appear out of the blue. One of them appear over 6 months after completion of the project after seemingly everything had already but squared away. And the paper trail on expenses is non existent. The designer associated with the company I will say was great, organized and always responsive. And she was there the whole time! In the end we got there. And I think the construction work is actually to a good standard. But with all the headaches and issues within the company, the poor documentation and communication, and poor bookkeeping, I would have to recommend against using this company."

"Dave and his staff are superior on all levels. Honest about levels of work involved. Fair pricing. Pleasant attitude. Does quality work. We've used DEDHICO for a major 3-room + screen porch addition and inside-room renovation, then a second time for an outdoor shed + foundation repair, then a third time for foundation install @ bilco doors + sump pump area renovation. They have responded to emergency repairs when needed. We will continue to use DEDHICO as long as we own our home...which we anticipate to be many more years into the future."

Garage Doors questions, answered by experts

A garage extension makes sense if you need more room to work, store your belongings, or park another vehicle. It’s also a smart financial move. As far as the value a garage adds to a home, you can often recoup 75% to 85% of your investment into a garage extension.

When you’re painting a garage floor, it’s best to use a combination of rollers and brushes. You’ll want to start with a brush, making a border around the edges where the floor meets the wall. From there you can use a roller, though some people also like to do the entire first coat with a brush because it’s easier to work the paint into the textured concrete.

Garage door sensors should be installed on each side of the door, typically six inches off of the ground. The sensors communicate through an infrared beam, so they need to face each other directly for the system to work properly. Make sure they’re level and aligned, and keep the area around them clear. If they’re too high or out of alignment, your garage door won’t function properly.

Insulating an unheated garage can still be worth it. For instance, insulating an attached garage can help with heat loss from your house in general, and it can also make it easier to store electronics in your garage without worrying about them being exposed to extreme temperatures.

If you use your detached garage as a workspace, insulation can still make a difference. Plus, you can use space heaters and a window unit AC to help condition the space while you work without installing heating.

There are several reasons garage door cables can come off multiple times. The most common reason is that the springs have too much or too little tension and require adjusting. Other causes include track alignment issues that keep the door from operating correctly or smoothly. A damaged winding drum or obstructions in the cable's way can also cause it to come loose.
